Really sorry to all the @Labour4PR campaigners for defeat today.
The fact that 80% of CLP reps voted in favour is both highly ironic and a testament to the undemocratic nature of @UKLabour as a party.
This is a big step back, but at least we know who to target now: unions.
If the government really thought FPTP was so great, they would also introduce it for the London Assembly elections.
But they’re not.
Why?
Because it doesn’t work in their favour in London
FPTP is a tactical weapon.

Ah shit.
And everybody, please remember:
Conservatives AND Labour support FPTP and will do everything they can to protect it.
Expect Labour to abstain on this.

Dear God, this guy sucks.
A terrible, disingenuous and I’ll-informed piece… which unfortunately still reflects a large portion of the @UKLabour establishment.

Starmer has come out and blatantly said he won’t consider a ‘progressive alliance’ with similar parties.
I hope this will help people realise that this fantasy idea isn’t the best route to PR.
Labour will never, ever willingly give up their privilege.

Can people stop pretending that random local by-election results are evidence of a Progressive Alliance at work?
If you don’t know the context of the area then either read @andrewteale’s previews or keep quiet!

Now we’ll be able to tell very clearly at Labour Conference what side @Keir_Starmer is on.
If @UKLabour *still* don’t pass a pro-PR motion then you have to suspect Forensic Keir is opposed.
Fingers crossed!
Poll of Labour members: Should Labour support changing the voting system for general elections to a form of proportional representation?
Should: 83% (+7)
Should not: 10% (-2)
Don't know: 7% (-5)

This is a great map.
A plurality of counties use FPTP, but a majority of countries use some form of Proportional Representation or at least a hybrid system.
Which country surprises you the most?
The government today just amended an absolute duty on it contained in an Act of Parliament by a motion in the Commons. They did not amend the Act. They simply used their Commons majority to override the law.
