Cambodian Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts solemnly condemns the destructive attacks carried out by the Thai military against Ta Krabey Temple, a sacred cultural site of Cambodia. This reprehensible act reflects profound immorality and demonstrates a blatant disregard for culture, civilization, and the sacred heritage that forms part of the shared legacy of humanity, especially the priceless cultural patrimony built and preserved by Khmer ancestors.

“The Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts calls upon all national and international bodies, particularly UNESCO, the ASEAN community, relevant institutions, organizations, associations, and all individuals dedicated to the protection of humanity’s heritage, to unequivocally condemn these actions and to urge the Thai military to immediately cease all acts of destruction. National and international intervention is urgently required, as the Thai military has continued indiscriminate attacks on multiple locations, including both civilian areas and heritage sites. Notably, on 8 December 2025, the Temple of Preah Vihear also sustained damage, resulting in the total destruction of conservation facilities under the Cambodia–India joint conservation project, along with other temple structures,” according to the statement seen by Fresh News on Tuesday (Dec. 9).

“The Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts will employ all available mechanisms, both national and international, to ensure that Thailand is held accountable under applicable international law for these immoral acts and to ensure that these destructive actions are duly recorded in the historical record of humanity.”

Thai strikes have now killed 9 Cambodian civilians, including an infant, and injured 46 more, according to a senior Cambodian official. Nearly 40,000 families, more than 120,000 people across Preah Vihear, Oddar Meanchey, Banteay Meanchey, Pursat, and Battambang, have been displaced.

The official described the use of heavy weapons and airstrikes on civilian areas as armed aggression against Cambodia’s sovereignty. Cambodia is gathering evidence for a possible complaint to the International Criminal Court.

The Cambodian government has only released civilian figures so far. Social media posts continue to mention military casualties, but no official numbers have been provided. There are confirmed deaths on the Thai side too, and the toll on both countries is heavy.

We may never know the real numbers. Some of it is unclear because of the chaos, and some of it may never be released at all.

I am deeply concerned by reports of armed clashes between Cambodian and Thai forces along their common border. I offer my condolences to the families of those who have been killed or injured. The renewed fighting risks unravelling the careful work that has gone into stabilising relations between the two neighbours.

Thailand and Cambodia are close partners of Malaysia and key members of ASEAN. We urge both sides to exercise maximum restraint, maintain open channels of communication and make full use of the mechanisms in place. Malaysia stands ready to support steps that can help restore calm and avert further incidents.

Our region cannot afford to see long-standing disputes slip into cycles of confrontation. The immediate priority is to halt the fighting, safeguard civilians, and return to a diplomatic path supported by international law and the neighbourly spirit on which ASEAN depends.

Her Excellency Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, the Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence, would like to inform the general public, both national and international media outlets, as follows:

On November 13, 2025, at 10:20AM, the Coordinating Task Force for the Observer Team of the Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia facilitated the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) to observe verify and report on the situation where the Thai forces' unprovoked use of violence against the innocent Cambodian civilians for two rounds: the 1st round at 03:50 PM, and the 2nd round at 05:54 PM, resulting in 3 people injured and 1 person killed, in Prey Chan village, O' Bei Chan commune, O' Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province.

Cambodia urges that Thailand immediately cease all hostile activities that threaten peace and stability in the region. At the same time, we call on the Thai side to turn to firmly honour the Ceasefire Agreement, the Joint Declaration, as well as the obligations under international law with sincerity, in good faith and goodwill.

The Kingdom of Cambodia calls for an independent investigation into this case and appeals for the participation of qualified international parties to uncover the truth and those responsible in order to deliver justice for the victims of Thai military shootings of innocent Cambodian civilians.

The Ministry of National Defence reiterates that rather than resorting to acts of aggression or the use of force, Cambodia firmly adheres to resolving disputes through peaceful means in accordance with international law, the existing treaties, conventions and agreements, so as to seek solution that is just, fair, long-lasting, and in compliance with international law.

Based on the above information, the public, both national and international media outlets, are advised to be informed accordingly.

It should be recalled that the Thai troops began the attack on the Cambodian civilians for two rounds: the 1st round at 03:50 PM, and the 2nd round at 05:54 PM, resulting in 3 people injured and 1 person killed.

On September 27, 2025, at approximately 11:52 AM, Thai military forces initiated an attack on Cambodian military positions by firing many shots of motar and small arms at the Cambodian base in the An Seh area. As of now, the Cambodian armed forces continue to monitor this development with the utmost caution and attention, and are fully prepared to defend the territorial integrity.

Cambodian armed forces reaffirm their firm commitment to respecting and fully implementing the ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand, emphasizing the importance of close cooperation at all levels and seeking concrete collaboration aimed at promoting peace and stability between the two countries. Cambodia also calls for a swift return to normalcy and urges Thailand to adhere strictly to respect and implement the ceasefire, as well.

A testament to human ingenuity, creativity, and spiritual devotion, this colossal stone complex stands in silent testament to a past civilization's glory and grandeur. The enigmatic faces etched into the ancient stone, the labyrinth of corridors lined with intricate bas-reliefs, and the iconic lotus bud-shaped towers captivate the imagination, inviting visitors to step back in time and explore the extraordinary legacy of the Khmer Empire.

The rise of Angkor Wat cannot be divorced from historical context of Khmer Empire, a powerful entity that ruled large parts of Southeast Asia from 9th-15th Century. Known as Kambuja, this empire extended across present-day Cambodia, Thailand, Laos and parts of Vietnam. Khmer kings were regarded as god-kings (Devaraja), combining Hindu concept of divine kingship with political system of monarchy. Khmer Empire was noted for its sophisticated irrigation and water management systems, which included canals, reservoirs, and moats, that supported rice cultivation and allowed population to flourish. The surplus in rice production bolstered economy, enabling empire to mobilize necessary workforce and resources for massive construction projects. Khmer architectural style was grand and elaborate, reflecting the empire's wealth, power and religious fervor.

Suryavarman II ascended to throne in early 12th Century and marked a period of territorial expansion and architectural ingenuity for Khmer Empire. He embarked on a series of military campaigns, extending Khmer influence and consolidating power. However, Suryavarman II's most enduring legacy is Angkor Wat, state temple and eventual mausoleum, a construction project of such scale and magnificence that it remains one of most impressive architectural feats in human history.

Ascending to Khmer throne under circumstances believed to be marked by usurpation and strife, Suryavarman II's reign is marked by both territorial conquest and architectural ambition. His rule, extending from 1113-1150 AD, became one of most significant periods in history of Khmer Empire. His name, translating to "protected by sun," signifies ruler's power and divine right to rule.

Suryavarman II's military endeavors were considerable. He pursued an aggressive series of campaigns against rival kingdoms.
Notable among these was Cham kingdom, now central Vietnam, which he subdued after a series of naval battles. His territorial ambitions also turned westwards towards present-day Myanmar and the northern part of the Malay Peninsula. These conquests, though not without setbacks and reversals, secured his empire's standing as a formidable force in Southeast Asia. Despite militaristic aspects of his reign, Suryavarman II was also recognized as statesman, establishing diplomatic relationships with China, one of foremost powers during that time.

Cultural and religious leanings of Suryavarman II were decidedly Hindu, with king's devotion to Vishnu, a preserver god in Hinduism, being well-documented. This devotional preference significantly influenced spiritual direction of his court and shaped design and dedication of Angkor Wat, magnificent temple he commissioned. Construction of Angkor Wat, begun in first half of his reign, was an architectural endeavor that reflected his religious beliefs, his political authority and his ambition. Remarkably, Suryavarman II also departed from tradition of "temple mountain," architectural style that his predecessors used for their state temples, which represented sacred Mount Meru, home of gods in Hindu cosmology. Instead, he chose to construct a flat, concentric, gallery-style temple that allowed for continuous processions and large gatherings. This unique choice showcases his innovative vision and his desire to distinguish his legacy.

AKP បន្ទាយមានជ័យ ថ្ងៃទី១៥ ខែសីហា ឆ្នាំ២០២៥ ក្រុមអ្នកសារព័ត៌មានជាតិ និងអន្តរជាតិ អញ្ជើញចុះពិនិត្យស្ថានភាពជាក់ស្តែង នៅភូមិជោគជ័យ ឃុំអូរ៣ជាន់ ស្រុកអូរជ្រៅ ខេត្តបន្ទាយមានជ័យ នារសៀលថ្ងៃទី១៥ ខែសីហា ឆ្នាំ២០២៥ ដែលយោធាថៃបានរាយលួសបន្លា បន្ទាប់ពីបទឈប់បាញ់បានចូលជាធរមាន និងសេចក្តីថ្លែងការណ៍រួម នៃកិច្ចប្រជុំវិសាមញ្ញនៃគណៈកម្មាធិការព្រំដែនទូទៅ កម្ពុជា-ថៃ (Extraordinary GBC Meeting) កាលពីថ្ងៃទី០៧ ខែសីហា ឆ្នាំ២០២៥ នៅប្រទេសម៉ាឡេស៊ី។
