All across the US southern border this is the daily occurrence, kids cross the US/ Mexico international port of entry back and forth back and forth back and forth, with little to no adult supervision.. The district school busses or even private vans arrive here at the port of entry and wait for them to cross, they then are taken to the schools, allegedly. They are dropped back off in the afternoons. So many scenarios play out in my mind, what are your thoughts? This was in my Facebook feed this morning from a local owner of a tame bull that was shot and killed for meat -
"This is absolutely heartbreaking, but sadly it is not an isolated incident.

We had our bull, Ted, stolen and butchered by a neighbour up the road. Ted was so quiet and friendly that you could hand-feed him and scratch his head.

We were able to obtain DNA evidence proving that the animal was ours, because Ted had sired calves in our paddock. After nearly two years, the person responsible eventually pleaded guilty.

And what was the consequence?

A good behaviour bond. No reparation to us and no meaningful penalty.

It actually cost us $1,200 just to get what remained of our own bull back from the butcher.

Even more disturbing was that the previous year another person in our area had their bull stolen and shot. The outcome was essentially the same — a good behaviour bond and no reparation.

This is why farmers and livestock owners are so frustrated. Stealing and killing someone's stock is not a minor offence. These are valuable animals that people have bred, raised, fed and cared for, and in many cases they are much-loved animals as well.

Until our court system imposes consequences that genuinely reflect the seriousness of stealing and killing livestock — including appropriate penalties and reparation for the owners — what deterrent is there?

Farmers have been plagued by stock theft and illegal killing for years. We can report it, gather evidence, pay for DNA testing and wait years for a prosecution, but if the eventual consequence is little more than a good behaviour bond, the system is doing very little to discourage the next person from doing exactly the same thing.

At my local Walmart is always this senior citizen with severe arthritis and severe back pain working 40 hours a week since her entire social security check goes to her rent and nothing left for utilities and groceries. She is working because our federal government turned her down on disiblity and our state turned her down for public assistance more than once. She went on to tell me she has two Hispanic women on her apartment block that do not work, stay pregnant and is on public assistance.

I am so sick of American seniors being treated this way in their own country… Something has got to change!
