Medycy pracujący w nocy sypiają gorzej i krócej, niż pracujący w dzień. Jak minimalizować skutki nocnej pracy. Zaczynasz o 19:00, przed 30 min. drzemka, między 14:00, a 17:00, i kawa. W trakcie jasne światło i trochę kofeiny, w drugiej połowie bez kofeiny i krótkie drzemki.

Amazing perspective from the @NEJM on "What Is a #Mentor?" by Dr. Suzanne Koven @MassGeneralNews
Would be great to present the same #perspective by people/#physicians from different #regions in the world, such as Poland/#CEE countries, Asian and African countries, where the #experience might be very much different.
‼️My few thoughts on this issue:
👉In many places in Poland and CEE the #mentorship (in the form we all understand) does not exist, and we can rather observe a fear of young ambitious people that might replace us (the mentors).
👉For many colleagues it is very difficult to accept that young person from the team might be better in some aspects, and it would be great to learn from her/him. Mostly there is a rule "Boss is always right".
👉There are too many such situations, that there are attempts to stop or delay the scientific/professional #career of very creative, ambitious and #hardworking young people, what is unacceptable!
👉Due to the fact of a lack of true mentors, and very bad own #experiences, many people when become the leaders, are also not prone to teach and support young people/#mentees (fortunately it is not a rule).
👉There is no #system/#programs in Poland and CEE to support and encourage #mentorship and to learn how to be a good mentor/mentee and how to learn from each other, finally how to effectively collaborate.
👉All above results in relatively weak scientific position of CEE countries in comparison to Western ones or US, Canada or Australia. All above results that many young people decide to leave Poland looking for mentors abroad.
Obviously, I am the last person who wants to generalize, as fortunately I know great mentors in Poland‼️ I must also admit that the situation has improved in comparison to times when I started - >20 years ago.
But, it is only a little consolation, as much more is still to be done in this aspect, and we should definitely learn from our colleagues from the countries, when mentorship and #collaboration is recognized as a key for #success to everyone‼️💪
The rule is easy, do not try to be a God (or God forbid narcissist), always look for the opportunities to keep learning (to be a mentee)‼️‼️

This week @London_Trauma System is publishing our Palliative and End of Life Care in Older Trauma Patients best practice guidance. Please share widely!
https://t.co/RARYXMhq2c
Key Principles:
All healthcare professionals involved in the care of older trauma patients have a responsibility towards the identification and management of an individual’s palliative and end of life care needs.
Palliative support for older trauma patients should be provided in conjunction with, and not separate to, best available curative/life-prolonging interventions
All older trauma patients should be looked up on local health records to see if they have an advance care pathway
Prognostication at the outset can be difficult. Where the appropriateness of clinical interventions is uncertain, ‘time limited trial of treatments’ should be considered, alongside patients wishes and preferences.
Effective communication between TUs and MTCs is essential and palliative care referral pathways should be in place within trauma networks to facilitate individualised decision-making.
Where specialist services at MTCs are requested to guide treatment options, senior TU clinicians managing the patient should factor in and convey relevant information about a patient’s medical background and personal values, to enable shared decision-making on prognosis, treatment intentions and the best location of ongoing care.
Thank you to @TraumaEMC and everyone involved in producing this guidance.

Jak się nie zarazić i nie zarażać innych?
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. John Ballance. He died peacefully in his sleep. He was an Honorary Member of the ERC and he had been leading the ERC Advanced Life Support courses across the ERC network for many years. Our sincerest condolences to his family.
Prof Koen Monsieurs, Chair of the ERC said "Dear John, you will always have a special place in our hearts as a friend, a true gentleman, an inspiring teacher and a great ambassador of the ERC. Countless lives were saved by those you have taught. I feel privileged to have known you".
