Binary numbers invented in India!
1010110. They are the foundational for Computer Science.

In 200 BCE, a Hindu scholar is trying to solve a poetry problem.

How many ways can you make a line of 3 syllables, if each syllable can be short or long?

That question becomes binary code.

Acharya Pingala, younger brother of Panini as per by tradition, is writing the Chandahshastra, the science of meters.

Every Sanskrit shloka must fit a meter. He wants to classify all possible meters.

He invents a system:

* Laghu = short syllable = 0
* Guru = long syllable = 1

He then asks:

For a 1-syllable meter, what are the combinations?

L, G - 2

For 2 syllables?
LL, LG, GL, GG - 4

For 3?
LLL, LLG, LGL, LGG, GLL, GLG, GGL, GGG - 8

This is binary counting, 2,200 years before Leibniz.

He writes Sutra 8.32: "prastāre laghu-guru" - layout with laghu and guru. In his method, he explicitly describes how to generate all patterns by adding L and G systematically

EXACTLY how a modern computer counts in binary: 000, 001, 010, 011...

Then he does more.

In Sutras 8.34-35, he describes Meru Prastara - what you see as the triangle of pebbles and sticks in the picture.

That is Pascal's Triangle, 1,800 years BEFORE Pascal.

He uses it to answer: how many 6-syllable meters have exactly 2 longs?

The answer is in the Meru.

And then, Sutra 8.28: he describes how to calculate 2^n - the number of ALL combinations.

His method: double repeatedly, using a process called sankhya.

This is the earliest known explicit algorithm for binary exponentiation.

And Sutra 8.31: how to find the binary representation of a number - his method of division by 2.

Leibniz, in 1703, will publish binary and claim he invented it. But Leibniz is 1,900 years late.

Pingala wasn't building a computer. He was describing how to write a poem in Gayatri meter.

Poetry needed math. Math became binary.

What you see in the painting (the pebbles as laghu (short), sticks as guru (long), arranged in a triangle) is LITERALLY the FIRST COMPUTER CODE, laid out on an earth floor in 200 BCE.

Every 0 and 1 in your phone exists because a man in ancient India wanted to count the ways to say a verse.

On the one hand the U.S. is making it more and more difficult for the Indians seeking jobs in their country; on the other, it is pressurising the Indian government to make things easy for the conversion mafia here in India. The states that are not ruled by the BJP take a confrontational approach to the policies of the central government. This again is effected by the unseen hands of the conversion mafia. The opposition has become a conglomerate blob of corrupt and dynastic political parties driven only by self-interest. If the nationalists and the Hindus are not watchful it appears like we as a nation are heading for a fracture. I think the Modi government should tighten the bolts of administration. Even the nation-centric RSS appears to be petering out from its core values. Is the Modi Govt fatigued? God save India.

An FIR has been filed against N. Ram Kumar, a DMK functionary from Srirangam, TN. Police allege he encroached on Ranganathaswamy Temple land worth ₹50 crore and built a DMK office on it.

Would the political and media response be the same if the alleged encroachment involved a temple associated with any other political ideology?

And why does the “Brahminical oppression” argument so often become a shield when Dravidian politics collides with the sanctity of temples or Sanatana itself?

1967’ல் அண்ணாதுரை அவர்கள் முதலமைச்சரான பிறகு கொண்டு வந்த முதல் சட்டம், சுயமரியாதைத் திருமண சட்டம்!. ஈவேராவின் ஆசையை நிறைவேற்ற இந்த சட்டத்தை கொண்டுவந்தார் அண்ணாதுரை அவர்கள்.

அக்னி வலம் முடிந்தால் அது இந்து திருமணம் என்று ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளப்படவேண்டும் என அண்ணல் வடித்த இந்து திருமண சட்டம் கூறும்போது, அதில் 7-A என்ற பிரிவைச் சேர்த்து, (state amendment in central act) ஏற்கனவே நடைமுறையில் இருந்த திருமணச் சடங்குகளுடன், மாலை மாற்றிக் கொள்வது, மோதிரம் மாற்றிக் கொள்வது , இரண்டு சாட்சிகள் முன்னிலையில் திருமணத்தை அறிவித்துக் கொள்வது இவை எல்லாமே ‘இந்து திருமணம்’ என்ற சட்ட அங்கீகாரம் வழங்கப்பட்டது.

ஐயர் வைத்து திருமணம் செய்யும் நடைமுறை ஒழுக்கவேண்டும் என்பதே இதன் நோக்கமாக இருந்தது. என்பதுபோல கட்டுப்பாடுகள் விதிக்கப்படுவதாகவும், இந்த சட்டத்தை எதிர்த்து 2015-ல் நான் சென்னை உயர்நீதிமன்றத்தில் வழக்கு தொடர்ந்தேன்.

இதற்காக என்னை விமர்சித்து, அன்றைய முதலமைச்சர் கருணாநிதி ‘முரசொலி’ நாளிதழில் அறிக்கை வெளியிட்டார். அதேபோல், வீரமணியும் என்னை “நவீன மனுதர்ம வாரிசு” என்று விமர்சித்து அறிக்கை வெளியிட்டார். இதற்கு நான் நடத்திய பத்திரிகையாளர் சந்திப்பில் அளித்த பதில், ‘விஜயபாரதம்’ பத்திரிகையில் மட்டுமே வெளியானது.

இந்த விவகாரத்திற்காக என்னை நேரில் அழைத்து பாராட்டிய ஒரே தலைவர் வீரத்துறவி இராம.கோபாலன் ஜி அவர்கள்.

“இந்தச் சிறிய வயதில் திராவிடத் தலைவர்களின் கண்களில் விரல் விட்டு ஆட்டிவிட்டாயே… நீ பெரிய ஆள்தான்!” என்று கூறி, உச்சி முகர்ந்து பாராட்டினார். அந்த அன்பையும் பாராட்டையும் நினைவுகூரும்போது, இன்றும் என்னால் கண்ணீரைக் கட்டுப்படுத்த முடியவில்லை. அப்போது எடுக்கப்பட்ட புகைப்படம்தான் இது.

வீரத்துறவியின் 100’வது பிறந்த ஆண்டு தொடக்க தினமான இன்று, அவர் நமக்குக் கற்றுக்கொடுத்த ஒழுக்கம், தியாக உணர்வு மற்றும் சித்தாந்தத்தின் மீதான பற்றை, இன்றுபோல் என்றும் கடைப்பிடிப்போம் என உறுதியேற்போம்.
