@MKumar_612 @Empiricist871@elonmusk Some Christians "articulate their experiences" by sorting people into "saved" and "unsaved"--a "brother/sister in Christ" or someone bound for Hell. In their system for understanding the world, I'm a "heathen." When this leads them to try to "save" me, do I need to play along?
@BradfemlyWalsh But no: he has to be an unimaginative narcissist who thinks he's funny and delights in mocking his elderly mother. Well played, Josh! I wish you success in making sure no one ever wants to actually talk to you!
@BradfemlyWalsh She could've written "Please call me about Christmas." He could've written "Please don't text 'call me' without any context; it makes me afraid that something bad has happened" and skipped the "old people" bit. Or he could've called her and said "When you do this, it scares me."
@thebitterlesson @JaneQuaife I was absolutely shocked the first time I encountered this argument. “Drive out those selfish old people—I want their stuff, and I’m more important!”
@VenerablePhoenx @JaneQuaife You’re only 67! My extremely active parents are in a duplex with 3 levels (laundry machines in a basement, kitchen and living room on main floor, bedrooms upstairs) and it’s starting to be a problem now in their 80s—but it would be very hard on them to move to a new place.
@Maggie_Does@SonyaDouglas@eyre_ann@UNHumanRights I actually prefer “men who think they are women” or “men who wish they were women,” but you’re right—I don’t have to choose between scare quotes and refusing to split the word! Thank you. That’s what I’ll do in the future.
@SonyaDouglas@eyre_ann@UNHumanRights “Trans women” are MEN. Everyone, including the UN, knows that; they just enjoy feeling virtuous for pretending otherwise. Caring about actual violence towards actual women is so tedious, right?
@AmberVeee Well said. It seems kind of sexist to me—sympathy and respect for the poor struggling man who is ruled by his emotions, rage and contempt for the angry traumatized woman who is “acting like a child.” I adore both characters, but I do think Elrond is being extra sullen.
I was a member of Amnesty International for many years. I ceased to be a member a few months ago because of statements like these 👇🏼, which go beyond what is reasonably tolerable in the context of what is at stake: the systematic violation of human rights on the basis of sex.
A human rights organisation should be more cautious when it comes to making statements that wipe victims off the map or, worse, blame them for "choosing" to be victims.
I find it outrageous to insinuate that those in Afghanistan who "identify" as women are the ones who suffer.
Being a woman is an unmodifiable biological fact with which one is born and dies.
During their lifetime, in many cultures, women have their clitoris removed in infancy, have their breasts flattened, are isolated and locked away when they menstruate, are discriminated against, expelled from the community or killed for out of marriage pregnancies, risk their lives in dangerous abortions, are raped and controlled because of their limited physical strength, and so on and so forth.
None of this is imaginary. None of that happens to them because they "think" they are women. It happens to them because they are women.

@bourne_beth2345 I wish there was a way to find out how many of us have left the Democratic Party over this issue—I was a member for 30+ years and am now an Independent. I’m sorry you were treated that way—thank you for standing up.
@dayvekeem @Psychgirl211@Purebloodtruth So yeah, fuck everyone’s pronouns. I’m done being sooo nice, sooo terribly concerned about everyone’s feelings, oh gosh I wouldn’t want to be transphobic, how AWFUL. It is an ideology (an internally incoherent one, but that never stops anyone from accepting it), and I reject it.
@dayvekeem @Psychgirl211@Purebloodtruth Have you ever noticed how much more upset people are about “trans women” than about “trans men”? That’s because everyone knows “trans men” are actually women and are thus no threat—though they can be a nuisance to gay men (who, being men, are annoyed, not afraid).
