We’re direct action ocean stewards, paddling out plastic from aquatic environments, helping people see what they can't see--a steady stream of polluting plastic
Only 5% of plastic is recycled in the US. We need upstream solutions that take us back to days when we didn't generate SO MUCH TRASH, not to mention days when we weren't filling our aquatic environments with wildlife-killing #plastic pollution #timeforaction@EPA#reuse#refill
@WasteCounter@circulareconomy@plasticsnews Can’t read the article, but the quick bit I saw indicates demand is falling; prices are falling. Seems to translate to what “we” are doing is working.

Fish rescue! Found it w/ hook in mouth attached by short monofilament to sinker+bobber (p2) Cut w/ needle nose pliers (p3) Set it free (p4) Saved other species from swallowing fish+hook
TBH we know we’re saving fish and other species every time we #PaddleOutPlastic#ghostgear
All from the water All one morning 2,420 pieces of almost all plastic Largely single-use plastic
EPA tackle low-hanging fruit NOW, such as banning styrofoam food ware, that ghastly menace for which there are alternatives

@fredsteenbergen@Win_OpenData@BoyanSlat There’s too much. And industry has relied far too long on volunteers to make up for their greed when they fail to internalize all costs associated with their money making activities.
@Win_OpenData@fredsteenbergen@BoyanSlat Agree. Somebody should be compensated for what we are doing. Plus source reductions We’d rather be taking photos of wildlife out at sea, than photos of trash in the water and see our efforts as an interim very minor assist with a very major problem.
@BoyanSlat Agree we must think of problems as things to be solved, but we must find the cause(a) then evaluate solutions with an eye to finding solutions that don’t create other serious problems including for the environment, which historicallyhas been ignored by industry w/o oversight .
LAX cuts trash by banning the sale of single-use plastic water bottles and encouraging flyers to fill reusable bottles at terminal water stations. Via @FOXLA#PlasticFreeJuly https://t.co/xz2XH6re8s
"the L.A. Regional Water Quality Control Board adopted a protective fireworks display permit...which requires new best practices aimed at reducing #plastics and other pollution that could fall into oceans or marinas from fireworks displays."

📰Good news: REDUCED DEMAND for #plasticpollution packaging in EU is driving polluters to CUT PLASTIC PRODUCTION📉
Let's all do @PlasticFreeJuly force plastic producers to cut production around the world! If we don't buy it, they won't make it!
