Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal was chairing a meeting with Pakistan Bureau of Statistics today.

Minister Ashan Iqbal advised that Pakistan Bureau of Statistics need to create liaison with statistical departments of universities. There need to be a pool of statisticians for developing collaboration with PBS.
Minister Ahsan Iqbal remarked that “data can be used for predictive management”. He advised to arrange a workshop with Secretaries and Commissioners who should be elaborated on how to access and utilise the PBS data resource for making effective policy decisions.
3⃣The Governing Council also briefed about “Change of base of Trade Indices from (1990-1991) to (2017-18)”. Recommendations of the technical committee of PBS regarding the change of base of Trade Indices were discussed.

Mr. Muhammad Sarwar Gondal, Member (Support Services/RM) of PBS informed that liaison with stakeholders will be continued till the finalization of results and data dissemination stage.
The Governing Council of PBS was also briefed about the results of #Population & Housing #Census 2017 as well as various activities of the 7th Population and Housing Census, which is the first ever “#DigitalCensus” of Pakistan.
The Governing Council of #PBS unanimously approved the change of base of Trade Indices from (1990-1991) to (2017-18) today.
United Nations Statistics Division has already commended the initiative taken by @PakStat & endorsed the proposed methodology of #rebasing#TradeStatistics
