Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Strongly Condemns Police Raid on Peaceful Protest Camp Demanding Recovery of Missing Children

Islamabad : Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has strongly condemned the pre dawn police raid on a peaceful protest camp at Babarloi Bypass near Sukkur, the forcible dismantling of the camp, and the arrests and baton charge of citizens and civil society activists peacefully demanding the recovery of more than 20 missing children, including seven year old Hindu girl Priya Kumari.
In a statement, PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram said that the party strongly condemns the ongoing failure, incompetence, and alleged negligence of the PPP led Sindh government in the recovery of minor Hindu girl Priya Kumari and dozens of other missing children.
“This shameful episode has once again exposed the anti minority, feudal, and mafia friendly face of the PPP regime, which has turned Sindh into a safe haven for criminals and influential abductors,” he stated.
Sheikh Waqas Akram highlighted that nearly five years have passed since seven year old Priya Kumari was abducted on August 19, 2021, while serving water to mourners at a sabeel during Ashura in Sangrar village near Sukkur. Despite repeated public assurances from the Home Minister and other PPP functionaries that they “know her whereabouts” and that her “release is imminent,” the child remains missing. Multiple Joint Investigation Teams (JITs) have been constituted apparently for media photo ops only, while the Sindh High Court’s explicit orders directing the Inspector General of Police to establish a dedicated camp in Sukkur for her recovery have been blatantly ignored.
He further noted that peaceful protest camps had been established at Babarloi Bypass in Sukkur, with solidarity demonstrations held in Karachi, Hyderabad, Jamshoro, and other towns across Sindh. Instead of addressing the legitimate grievances of the affected families and citizens, the PPP government responded with brute force. Police conducted a midnight raid, dismantled the protest camp, and arrested innocent protesters.
“This heavy handed brutality against citizens raising their voices for the recovery of a missing child reveals the fascist mindset of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s party, which fears accountability more than it fears criminals,” Sheikh Waqas Akram asserted.
Emphasizing the interfaith dimension of the tragedy, the PTI Information Secretary said: “What makes this case even more heart-wrenching is that Priya Kumari, a young Hindu girl, was serving Muslim mourners during Muharram , a beautiful symbol of interfaith harmony. Yet the PPP government has utterly failed to protect her. It is commendable that Muslims across Sindh have joined hands with the Hindu community in demanding her immediate and safe recovery. This unity proves that the people of Sindh reject the divisive politics of the PPP.”
He added that the government’s continued inaction and suspected protection of influential figures involved in the kidnapping expose deep-rooted patronage networks. “The PPP has reduced Sindh’s minorities to second class citizens living in perpetual fear,” he lamented.
PTI demands the immediate and safe recovery of Priya Kumari and all other kidnapped and missing children in Sindh. The party calls upon the federal government, the judiciary, and human rights organizations to ensure that the Sindh government fulfills its constitutional responsibilities and brings the perpetrators to justice without further delay.

It has now been around 1,100 days since my father, Imran Khan, was imprisoned, and my brother and I haven’t heard his voice since March. For months, we’ve been denied contact with him. We remain in the dark about his access to healthcare as his eyesight continues to deteriorate. He urgently needs medical attention, and with no family or legal access, we don’t even get any second hand information or reassurance.

I’ve found myself especially missing him recently. I want to speak to him about mundane things like my cricket, books I’ve been reading and what new movies are good. I understand the people of Pakistan want their chosen leader free, but I miss my father more than ever.

But this is not just about a father. It is about Pakistan, and its future. A rigged, authoritarian regime continues to crush political opposition, undermine democratic institutions, and deny millions of Pakistanis their right to freely choose their leaders, whilst terrorising those who speak their beliefs.

I once again plea to the international community to not look away. Silence in the face of injustice only enables it.
