@AlexanderDioni9@caitoz@ContraPoints The fact every group does purity testing that's my point. Because purity testing is so ubiquitous and necessary to ideological groups, you're critique is ultimately vague. Any ideological standard a group demands can be called purity testing! It isn't meaningful.
@AlexanderDioni9@caitoz@ContraPoints Your initial reply to her was you saying the points she raised didn't justify the harassment when as you're admitting rn that was not her intention to begin with. Do you not see how this can be read as you implying she was trying to justify harassment but failed at ?
@AlexanderDioni9@caitoz@ContraPoints Yes and Johnstone never claimed harassment was justified she just provided an explanation for why the left reacted negatively and you just dismissed it as purity testing which as I alreayd explained to you is a vague term.
@AlexanderDioni9@caitoz@ContraPoints Again, you're sidestepping the point. Purity testing occurs whenever a demand is made that people who wish to be part of a group meet certain ideological criterias. Nothing you said refutes this. Johnstone literally told you she isn't claiming Contra is a genocide supporter too.
@AlexanderDioni9@caitoz@ContraPoints A purity test is any instance where a group demands a member meet specific ideological criterias. If you don't think TERFs can be leftists or want to discourage people from using TERF like language (TIMs), this is definitionally purity testing. 1/2
@Christianatdk@ContraPoints@Julesnader386 If someone (says a Sam Harris type) said terms like "sexist", "transphobic" or "racist" were too vague and tried to discourage taking aim at those prejudices as a "great Satan" when they are the root of an ongoing issue. I wager Natalie would understand this as in poor taste.
@ContraPoints@Julesnader386 wouldn't have done anything about civil rights and racism during Jim Crow or apartheid as they were too once popular in the dominant white populations benefiting from them. This can also be said of sexism, homop and transphobia. 2/2
@ContraPoints@Julesnader386 Point 2 is essentially you taking offense at people taking aim at Zionism. Delegitimizing critics of Zionism is a central point of pro-Israel rhetoric. Moreover, the points you raise seem weak. If we were the follow the logic in Misery, we ...1/2
@AlexanderDioni9@caitoz@ContraPoints Every movement does and needs purity testing. It is technically "purity testing" to oppose TERFs using terms like "TIMs" like Contra did. I don't think it<s fair to call Contra pro-genocide, but Johnstone as adequately raised the problem.
@Banglaphile@JerusalemDemsas Ideology can't be equally represented as opposite ideologies inherently don't have equal veracity. Unless you believe different "races" have genetically different psychological traits, you've got to concede some form of social disparity is at play when they're underrepresented.
@ByMSA21@LeeDowney With all due respect, I disagree. Let's say a politician changes their opinion on Israel once in office, can they expect the same AIPAC support in the next election ? Are equal funding opportunities available for people who don't wish to support Israel?
@IMoeHal@Grraarrgh I fail to see why past war crimes are something we should overlook but past rape of an American woman isn't. I like Hasan, but Jesus, this endorsement was ultimately an L.
@SashaGusevPosts Certain psych researchers in BG or evopsych keep saying they want method-based rather than or emotion-based critique of hereditarianism that assumes bad intentions. But then, they consistently do the latter for data that undermines hereditarian claims or other BG/evopsych claims
@BrainyMarsupial@hecubian_devil Group differences aren't impossible, but so far there has been scant evidence to suggest they're present/substantial in the ways HBD people often claim for black and asian pops. This post touches upon a many of the shortcomings.
