There is an ideology that has steadily been growing in this country which hates everything that is good, righteous and beautiful and celebrates everything that is warped, twisted and depraved. It is an ideology at war with family and nature. It is envious, malicious, and soulless. It is an ideology that looks upon the perfect family with bitter rage while embracing the serial criminal with tender warmth. Its adherents organize constantly to tear down and destroy every mark of grace and beauty while lifting up everything monstrous and foul. It is an ideology that leads, always, inevitably and willfully, to violence — violence against those uphold order, who uphold faith, who uphold family, who uphold all that is noble and virtuous in this world. It is an ideology whose one unifying thread is the insatiable thirst for destruction.

We see the workings of this ideology in every posting online cheering the evil assassination that cruelly robbed this nation of one of its greatest men. Postings from those in positions of institutional authority — educators, healthcare workers, therapists, government employees — reveling in the vile and the sinister with the most chilling glee.

The fate of millions depends upon the defeat of this wicked ideology. The fate of our children, our society, our civilization hinges on it.

Now we devote ourselves, with love and unyielding determination, to finishing the indispensable work to which Charlie bravely devoted his life and gave his last measure of devotion.

I assume few will read the transcript as the estimated reading time is 83 minutes vs 26 minutes for the story.

Even though the article quotes extensively from the interview, consider how the reporter writes the story in a manner which may cause you to come away with a substantially different impression than if you had just read the transcript.

Think about how many stories about subjects you have read without having had access to the transcript.

That’s why I vastly prefer podcasts and other long form interviews, and ideally an in-person meeting, when trying to get a sense of someone.

On a positive note, it is rare that the media release the transcript along with the article. Time should be complimented for doing so here.

"The cycle of violence starts with the Israeli occupation," writes the Globe's @abdallah_fayyad.

You should read his well-written piece and decide for yourself. But here is the truth: There is no "cycle of violence" — there is a history of horrific Palestinian terror and of desperate efforts by Israel to prevent more atrocities. Nor did anything start with the "Israeli occupation" — every time Palestinian Arabs have been offered statehood, every time they have been given the opportunity to govern themselves in peace alongside a Jewish state, they have vehemently and violently rejected it.

It is not "Israeli occupation" that Hamas and the PLO resent. It is the existence of any Jewish state, no matter how small. In 1947 the United Nations voted to create two states, one Jewish and one Arab, in what had been British Palestine. The Jews agreed. The Arabs launched what they called a "war of extermination" to prevent the birth of a Jewish state. Miraculously, Israel survived the Arab onslaught. That is what its enemies call "the occupation."

Eighteen years ago, Israel expelled all the Jews who were living in the Gaza Strip and transferred the entire territory to the Palestinian Authority. It was the perfect opportunity for Palestinians to build a flourishing and peaceful state, unimpeded by Jewish "occupiers." Instead, the Palestinian Authority and Hamas vowed to use Gaza as a base for more and more terror. They kept their word. The nearly 1,000 Israelis shot, hacked, burned, raped, beheaded, and tortured to death this past week are only the latest victims.

For many, many centuries, Jews suffered unimaginable cruelty, oppression, enslavement, and violence. Often they had good reason to hate their rulers. But 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 did they respond by cutting off babies' heads, burning families alive in their homes, or opening fire on young people at a dance festival. And 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 did they inculcate in their children a passionate yearning for the genocide of non-Jews.

It has been said often, but it bears repeating: If Hamas and the PLO were to lay down their weapons, there would be no more violence. If Israel were to lay down its weapons, there would be no more Israel. There are 21 Arab countries and 55 majority-Muslim countries in the world. There is only one small Jewish country. But for Israel's enemies, that has always been one too many.
