May is Mental Health Awareness Month.
Mental health is health, not an option.
Check in with yourself and others. Often.
You matter.
Your mind matters.
And remember, asking for help is the highest form of strength.
Ah, a fellow overthinker 😀 I used to be the same, especially in ny 20s. I guess you need to live a little and gain some experience before you stop overthinking and start thinking rationally. What I realized is that replaying the same scenario over and over just makes you feel worse! And not only does it not solve the problem, it doesn’t bring you any closer to a solution. It’s pointless. Later on, I learned some really helpful techniques to stop that cycle and shift my perspective. Of course, the change didn’t happen overnight, but with persistence, it happened gradually 😀
@AllAboutAscent Agreed. Whatever happened, happened. You can carry it around like a heavy bag, or you put it down and move on. As you said, you can’t change it anyway, so what’s the point in holding onto it? It’s just slowing you down and serving as a stressful reminder of pain.
@heryoungself Exactly, the only thing you can do is to make peace with your past, and try to understand it from today’s point of view. Accountability plays a crucial role in accepting it and moving on.
@RTthinks You’re right, repressed emotions don’t just disappear, they just get sneakier. And about anger, it’s not a pseudo-emotion, it’s just often poorly expressed.
The main goal of growth isn’t to be constantly regulated.
It’s to build the capacity to experience the full range of human emotions without shutting down.
Not just the pleasant ones. All of them.
For example, allowing yourself to feel sadness without immediately distracting yourself or pretending you’re fine. Just letting it be there, and staying connected to yourself through it.
Because you can’t heal what you refuse to feel.
@m__sandhu Absolutely agree. A lot of people throw the term around without really knowing what it means, and that’s exactly what’s happening with self awareness lately.
@ElenaRae644820 Meditation is quite a powerful tool from a psychological lens as well. It has many benefits, such as improving focus, strengthening emotional regulation, etc… science is finally catching up with what many have intuitively known for centuries.
