WATCH: Birungi Mawejje, the Federation of Uganda Taxi Operators spokesperson, has backed the ongoing operation on DMC vehicles, saying the number of taxis on the roads has reduced as many have been taken to garages for maintenance. He says taxi fares remain unchanged, while poor road conditions also contribute to the mechanical deterioration of vehicles.

At 78, when many people would be expected to rest and depend on their families, Henry Balikowa, a resident of Iganga District, continues to fetch water every day to earn a living.

Balikowa fetches about 50 jerrycans of water daily, selling each 20-litre jerrycan for just Shs 500. On each trip, he carries only eight jerrycans, forcing the elderly man to make several exhausting rounds to complete his daily work.

Despite his age and the physical strain, Balikowa says fetching and selling water remains his source of survival. Every round he makes is another painful journey in his struggle to earn enough to meet his daily needs.

For Balikowa, water is not just a basic necessity; it is the burden he carries every day to survive.
