Do effects of marriage persist over time even when you include divorced adults in your sample of ever-marrieds? Yes, according to new research by Tyler Vanderweele, statistician at @HarvardChanSPH. Here is what his team found comparing ever-married VS never-married: https://t.co/Yvt4dSXgtK
And so, on this Presidents’ Day may we remember the sacrifice of those who died to preserve us a nation and all commit to rediscover our better angels as ONE nation, under God with Liberty and Justice for ALL.
I don’t just mean civility and kindness (although we definitely need more of that too). I mean passionate disagreement that doesn’t destroy our souls and our country. Healthy conflict is good and foundational. But we must be Americans first and partisans second (or last).
Last week I saw American Exceptionalism at work as governors from all across the country met with the President to solve problems. We didn’t agree on everything, but we disagreed better. And we found ideas to bring us together. I still believe this is what Americans want.
As Reagan said: “These visitors…do not come as white or black…they are not Jews or Christians; conservatives or liberals; or Democrats or Republicans. They are Americans awed by what has gone before, proud of what for them is still … a shining city on a hill.”
This rhetoric is destructive and wrong and—honestly—evil. We don’t need a divorce, we need marriage counseling. And we need elected leaders that don’t profit by tearing us apart. We can disagree without hate. Healthy conflict was critical to our nation’s founding and survival.

When my tribe is under fire, before I offer a reflexive defense, I should consider an uncomfortable thought: My opponents might be right, my allies might be wrong and justice may require that I change my mind: https://t.co/2GD0cfO3jA
"If families make these [home-centered religious] practices a regular part of their daily family life instead of a seasonal 'one-off,' they are likely to profoundly improve their life satisfaction and the sense of connection in their homes." https://t.co/AVDHzrPrkF
Someone asked me for a pic of my nightstand last week…😬(in my defense, I’ve finished a few of these and refer back to them frequently). My favorite question when interviewing potential judges: What are you reading? Please reply with your pics/books!
Grief overwhelms the soul. Children slaughtered. Lives extinguished. Parents’ hearts wrenched. Incomprehensible. I offer prayer and condolence but know that it is grossly inadequate. We must find answers.
I join the world in awe of true heroes: the courageous President Zelensky, the brave Ukrainian soldiers, the citizen armies, the mothers cradling frightened children, and the journalists risking their lives to bring us truth. God bless them and God bless us to never forget.
🧵For very good reasons the Dept. of Public Safety will never comment on these issues or share security details for state buildings or officials and they would prefer I didn’t either. But I know how these things work, so let me share some context. 1/
@BYUCougars@Cook_Center This is such a powerful and timely message for all of our students. Thank you Steve and thanks to all who are working to take away the stigma of seeking help for mental and emotional challenges in our culture.
