Hinkling Broad this pm between exceptionally stormy showers: bittern booming plus another in flight, pinging reedlings, marsh harrier, common tern, 2 flyover spoonbill & Norfolk hawker. Great reserve 👍👍 @NENorfolkSufflk@NorfolkWT

Cannot believe I caught this on camera — a sea angel (devil?) feeding. These slugs live in the open ocean feeding almost exclusively on swimming snails (Limacina sp.). They do this in a pretty spectacular way — watch the video to see! #SeaSlugSaturday

#OTD in 1834 Ernst Haeckel was born. We were going to post something not 'jelly' related but then we saw this illustration of Porpita porpita from the volume on siphonophores of the Challenger Expedition reports, which can be found in our rare books room @thembauk 🪼
I've been thinking about the transience of life, and you can't take it with you, so I'll be tweeting my own deep-sea photos about one-a-day for people to use however they want (just credit me). This is a sequence of the light emission of the shrimp Heterocarpus ensifer.
Say hello to the Punk Ant. What a beautiful species of carpenter ant!! First time this species of ant has been photographed in the wild.
