Dear Reno,

This write-up relies more on rhetoric than truth, and collapses under basic scrutiny.

First, poverty statistics cited are selective and misleading. Poverty data in Nigeria is not measured annually at state level, and the figures quoted (2003 vs 2009) ignore national economic shocks, federal allocation structures, and the fact that Anambra under Obi consistently ranked among states with the lowest debt, highest savings, and strongest investment climate. Correlation is not causation.

Second, taxation under Peter Obi was not “taxing poverty” but formalising revenue to end the era of touts, illegal levies, and private collectors exploiting traders. Market reforms were resisted—as reforms always are—but they replaced chaos with transparent, harmonised taxes that funded schools, hospitals, and roads without borrowing.

Third, the Pandora Papers did not indict Obi for corruption, tax evasion, or illegality. His assets were declared and explained. No court, locally or internationally, found wrongdoing.

Finally, governance is judged by outcomes: Obi left office with billions in savings, zero salary arrears, improved education and health indices, and no debt. That is fiscal discipline, not hypocrisy.

Criticism is fair—but rewriting history to score political points is not.
