This morning in Biddeford, Maine, a 26-year-old man said goodbye to his wife and daughter and left for work. Moments later he was dead, shot in the head by ICE agents, the second man ICE has killed in six days.
ICE is killing our neighbors. ICE cannot be reformed. Abolish ICE.
🚨 𝗡𝗘𝗪: The VAR had already dealt with a similar situation to the Paredes - Embolo one at this World Cup during USA vs. Paraguay... It's called 'mistaken identity':
• Tim Ream was initially booked for a supposed foul on Miguel Almirón. However, after the free-kick had been taken, referee Danny Makkelie was sent to the monitor.
• Makkelie overturned the decision, rescinded Ream’s yellow card and instead booked Almirón for diving, the first VAR intervention for mistaken identity at a World Cup.
• The same thing has now happened in Argentina vs. Switzerland as Leandro Paredes was initially shown a yellow card for a challenge on Breel Embolo, but the VAR spotted that Embolo had dived
• Then, Paredes’ booking was overturned, while Embolo was shown a yellow card... Because it was Embolo’s second booking, he was sent off.
This is a clear dive and this type of VAR check has precedent in this tournament, and yet people will spam this for years in comment sections about how this tournament was rigged.
How does someone even comprehend that this would be an okay thing to say / do in the first place? Did he think this was a positive move? Even outside of his direct belief in politics, it’s just an unbelievable thing to actually admit to. What’s the PR move behind this?
Harry Kane confirms he played golf with Donald Trump: "We played about 18 months ago. He invited me to play when I was down in Palm Beach. It was a pretty surreal experience just to meet him and play golf with him"
Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, 52, was fatally shot by ICE agents yesterday during a traffic stop in Houston, TX. He was a father, husband and business owner who had been in the country for 35 years.
While the full story is still unfolding, we demand a full, transparent, and independent investigation. Our communities deserve to be safe and free from gun violence.
Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan speaking to beIN Sports, via France24:
“I told the referee that what was happening wasn’t fair. It’s an undeserved victory for Argentina.
“Once I’m back in my country and at home. I’ll never watch the World Cup again, because there’s no justice in this competition.”

I want to clarify that I do not agree with government interference in decisions related to this World Cup.
I also don't like that the USMNT players are now being portrayed as the villains for something that wasn't their fault. They had no control over what happened behind the scenes.
It is also important to point out that Article 27 wasn't something FIFA just invented for this case. It's a provision that has been used before. That said, because of the reported government interference, the decision now feels tainted to a lot of people. I understand why people see it that way. Even if there was no rule technically preventing those conversations, it doesn't look good, and I don't agree with that kind of interference.
At the end of the day, I don't want people taking this out on the national team because none of this is the players' fault. They're going to do what any team would do and prepare for the match they're told they're playing. If anyone has an issue with how this was handled, that should be directed at FIFA, not the players. I do think the decision should have come sooner and that there should have been more transparency throughout the process, but once the match starts it's still 11 vs. 11. The players didn't make this decision, they just have to go out and play, so blaming them for something they had no control over isn't fair.
Cristiano Ronaldo had a ban suspended by FIFA after elbowing a player during a qualifying match, which allowed UEFA to tweet this earlier than they otherwise would have.
