Sunderland AFC is my first love. I can't remember my first game but I can remember crying my eyes out because I was so cold on my dad's shoulders in the pissing down rain - and we were losing to Ipswich.
I remember finishing my own game on Shiney Row on Saturday morning, washing my hands and face in the car park, pulling jeans over my muddy knees and going straight to the match. Straight to the Cambridge with my best mate Jonny and his dad, Mrs C in her usual spot. No Double Maxim for us but we'd go sit outside Redby chippy and wait for the line-up to be announced, before heading to the ground to sit and commentate on the whole game, week in week out. I feel for whoever sat next to us.
Wednesday was a dream for me, not only did I get to watch my club win in Europe, I got to document it. Live it. Feel a part of its history. I didn't do anything differently. Just me and my camera and let the city and its people do the talking. I am one of you and if I met you on Wednesday I'm so proud to have shared this moment together. It's our time. Enjoy it.
