Just returned from the U.S. Not a word about Trump. Not a word about CUSMA. Not a word about Canada.
They simply don't care.
Yet many Canadians seem convinced that a Republican loss in the midterms would be a game changer.
Maybe.
But I wouldn't count on it. Even if Democrats reclaim Congress, there's no guarantee U.S. trade policy toward Canada would change in any meaningful way. The Obama and Biden years were difficult for our farmers and agri-food sector. More predictable, but difficult.
America is focused on America.
@FoodProfessor@RJMcClelland I cannot emphasize this enough: get to know your local ethnic grocer.
Stable crew: always the same employees who will recognize and smile at you (after a few years).
Imports: excellent quality/price ratio on products from Greece, Turkey, Poland, Romania, South America...
@FoodProfessor@RJMcClelland At my independent Greek grocer, my 4 y/o girl gets a free pass... some workers even sneak chocolates into her hand while Mom isn't looking. 🤭
@Tablesalt13 As an "old" millenial, I came into adulthood under Harper. How glorious it was.
Today's youth will never know how great Canada truly was. They are living in the ruins of a once great civilization.
Last August, I was invited to keynote (no honorarium) at a major event organized by Polytechnique Montréal—you know, the campus that no longer allows meat to be sold.
I received a note yesterday saying they’ve pivoted and will invite someone else to speak.
Here's the deal. Unless you’re left-of-centre or aligned with the Liberals, you risk being sidelined on university campuses in Canada. Full stop.
That’s the reality—and Canadians should know it.
Canada didn’t become unaffordable by accident. These were policy decisions of the same people in charge right now.
At this moment, 45.8% of Canadians aged 20 to 29 are still living at home.
In Ontario, alone it’s 53.3%.
Over HALf of young adults in Canada’s largest province can’t afford to leave home.
The reasonable dream of going to school, getting a good job, working hard and saving = homeownership… is done.
This isn’t normal. And it’s not because young people suddenly became lazy or this just “happening everywhere.”
It’s because of economic mismanagement, money printing, foreign money laundering into our housing market, out of control immigration, and extreme taxation affecting the cost of living.
The Liberals social program scraps don’t put a dent into Canadians bank accounts worth talking about. They are only weak bandaids for the problems they caused (and continue to cause).
Young Canadians are delaying everything:
Moving out.
Buying homes.
Getting married.
Having kids.
Building a future.
You cannot inflate housing, suppress real opportunity, and then gaslight an entire generation for struggling or tell them to “accept less.”
Liberal boomers I’m truly happy for you that you got wealthy from this mismanagement. Now young Canadians are the ones paying for it.
And young Canadians, I want you to know that this doesn’t have to be this way. Decline is a choice. The Liberals are stealing your birthright and your life doesn’t have to be this hard.
A common sense conservative government wouldn’t waste money in the same way. We should be one of the richest nations on earth. Where everything is affordable and people didn’t need social program scraps because they could actually afford to live in this country.
Remember that the next time you show up to vote.
@geerts94147@Tablesalt13 Well, demographically, leftist voters are dying off a little more every election.
The country will be saved by its youth when the gerontocracy inevitably falls... we may have to be patient.
