She lost two relatives to this river.
For 30 years, the only way to cross was on timber logs that the rains kept washing away.
Kids missed school.
Mothers in labour couldn't reach the clinic in time.
People died trying to get to the other side.
On the day of the launch of the project, Annet Kyarisima watched her grandchildren walk across a brand new bridge to school. Safely.
For the first time in her life.
The Kyabahanga Bridge opened afew years ago costing— UGX 10.4 billion- 30 metres of reinforced concrete, connecting Rukungiri and Kanungu.
What this means:
🌾 Farmers' produce no longer rots before reaching market — farm gate prices are already rising
🚗 Shorter trips = lower fares, lower transport costs
🏥 Mothers and children can finally reach clinics and schools without risking their lives
🛣️ 14.8km of extra approach road, funded from project savings instead of going back to the treasury
🇺🇬 Built by a Ugandan contractor — proof local firms can deliver.
This is what infrastructure is actually for, not concrete for concrete's sake.
Lives saved. Income earned. Children in class instead of stranded on a riverbank.
One bridge- two districts, multiple communities connected and transformed.

The Rt.Hon Deputy Speaker of Parliament, @Thomas_Tayebwa has officially broken ground for the construction of the Ncwera bridge in Mitooma District.

🚧New Bridge Alert!
For years, communities in Mitooma and Rutookye have depended on a makeshift 2.5m wide timber bridge after floods washed away the original structure. This temporary crossing has been the only link to schools, health centres, and markets—while vehicles have taken long, costly detours of up to 40 km.
Today, that is changing.
M/s Armpass Technical Services Limited is commencing the construction of the 25m Ncwera Bridge, complete with upgraded approach roads.
This modern steel composite bridge will restore safe, reliable access to social amenities and transform daily life for the community in and around Mitooma.
From a fragile timber footbridge to a permanent, resilient connection—Ncwera is moving forward.

#Kasese: Met up with works inspectors Gilbert Atwijukire & Katembesa Anthony earlier today at the site for ongoing works on the Bwera crossing along the Kikorongo—Bwera—Mpondwe road.
The collapse occurred due to vandalism & theft of metal pipe culverts for the previous drainage structure— https://t.co/eNbRijOldk
Demonstrating local contractor expertise, UNRA then contracted Armpass Technical Services, a local firm to permanently reconnect this section. They will later backfill, raise the road level, apply an asphalt seal and reopen the road, expected March 2025.
Bwera crossing lies approx 3.5Kms from the Uganda–DRC border, a bustling route that serves the very busy Mpondwe border, one of the country’s most active crossings, with over 50 trucks crossing daily according to @URAuganda Mpondwe Customs Station data.
The Karujumba Bridge in @kaseseDLG while still under construction is now open to traffic.
The 20m span reinforced concrete integral bridge, coupled with a 4x3.5m single cell box culvert, 4x3.5m and 3x2m double cell box culverts is now at over 80% completion.
The Project is Contracted to M/s Armpass Technical Services Ltd. @ArmpassLtd
Once complete, the bridge will connect Kisinga town council and Kyarumba Subcounty to Portal Mpondwe Road via Kabirizi parish.
For clarity @nbstv the section under reconstruction which collapsed in Dec 2023 is in Bwera town along the Kikorongo-Bwera-Mpondwe Road. It is not Mpondwe bridge as is being highlighted, the latter was constructed by @ArmpassLtd and handed over to @UNRA_UG in 2021 @assempebwa
