NEW: In the crowded Democratic field running to replace Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers, there’s a surprising early frontrunner for a battleground state: a democratic-socialist line cook who has called to abolish the police.

Break it down, Secretary Pete. This is the truth!
In Milwaukee, we competed for and won a $36 million federal grant to invest in 6th street — a thoroughfare connecting Black and Latino neighborhoods on the north and south sides of the city that were negatively impacted by the freeway coming through.
The project would have made the street safer for everyone using it, created 400+ construction jobs, and invested millions into our local economy.
Instead, due to President Donald Trump and his administration’s desire to pull funding if it improves the lives of people of color, this project was erased as soon as the president signed his so-called “Big Beautiful Bill.”
I don’t know what they find beautiful about eliminating jobs and investments in neighborhoods but that’s what they’re doing here.
As my father said, “BUT IT IS NOT ENOUGH for me to stand before you tonight and condemn riots. It would be morally irresponsible for me to do that without, at the same time, condemning the contingent, intolerable conditions that exist in our society. These conditions are the things that cause individuals to feel that they have no other alternative than to engage in violent rebellions to get attention. And I must say tonight that a riot is the language of the unheard. And what is it America has failed to hear? It has failed to hear that the plight of the negro poor has worsened over the last twelve or fifteen years. It has failed to hear that the promises of freedom and justice have not been met. And it has failed to hear that large segments of white society are more concerned about tranquility and the status quo than about justice and humanity.”
The sale had the backing of several CT families of Sandy Hook shooting victims. “By divesting Jones of Infowars’ assets, the families and the team at The Onion have done a public service and will meaningfully hinder Jones’ ability to do more harm.”

The single worst thing about Trump to me will always be how much he's changed people. I've watched friends and relatives become entirely new, worse people in the wake of his political rise. Like it's not merely that he's a terrible guy, it's that he's ruined people.
