People who didn't live through that time really don't underatand how important it was for the PS2 to be a DVD player was to its popularity. Before that, game consoles were seen as a luxury. But PS2? Early on lotsa family really bought it cause it was a DVD player 1st.
And gamedevs sees this and they all proceeded to develop their games for the PS2 (plus the trust PS1 built up before that) which is what led to the PS2 having such an expansive and varied library.
Just realized my infant daughter will regard traditional television the same way I regard radio dramas.
Something you know your parents once listened to but have never experienced yourself.
The internet and associated information was the 20th century’s ‘commons’. As with all commons through history it’s being ‘enclosed’ (fenced off, stolen) by the most dimwitted, rancid arseholes imaginable. And as ever, they’re getting away with it. See also the UK’s ‘upper class’.
There’s nothing *extremely* jarring about the screenshot below but just seeing their blocks of text side-by-side reminds me that there’s something so unsettling about the way the SF rationalist types write/talk. They all sound the exact same.
They all share the same non-chalant-but-intellectual internet-speak-y voice/tone. To them it probably sounds normal, and is even a pre-requisite as an in-group signifier, but as an outsider it makes your skin crawl once you notice it.
They all sound like cult leaders who are in the middle of trying to manipulate you into doing something you would never normally do by making it sound like “no biggie.”
They should all be investigated.
I hate both. You made localization political and now some stupid retard is localizing something you like poorly, which I also hate because translation and localization should be done with respect to the culture which none of you troglodytes, right OR left, care about.
On the contrary. Think just how much better it is when teams are not punished for geopolitical reasons, fans get visas to go and tickets don’t cost infinity dollars.
O losango devia ter sido abandonado como símbolo nacional já na proclamação da república. A tricolor Preta-Vermelha-Branca é a única autenticamente brasileira e é ESSA aqui que quero ver hasteada em Brasília no pós-revolução:
If you were to listen to the BBC over the past couple of days you would think the only opposition to Internet Age Checking is Disgruntled Teenagers and Parents who Think It Won't Work. Not a single opinion has been expressed on why age checking entire population is a Bad Thing
Social media bans, in their proclaimed function, are literally efforts to regulate the private social life, expression, and access to information of citizens --whether you want to view the children themselves as the subject of rights here, as you should, or their families.
The reason legacy media ghouls are thrilled for a social media youth ban is their own desire to wield such platforms without pushback. After a decade of being ratio’d by people younger and savvier than them, they need an info-starved generation to survive beyond the Xer audience.
No they weren’t, they were implemented for ad breaks in the US tv market. Obviously.
And the criticism is the instinctive resentment of something clearly cynical and profit-motivated being presented as benign and friendly.
