You are under the mistaken impression that the pie stays the same size, and that billionaires simply hold more of it than everyone else.

The pie does not stay the same size. In 1980 a typical household had one small oven, one car, and a telephone on the wall. The same household now has a computer in its pocket, food from every climate, and medical treatments that did not exist. Those were not slices taken from a fixed pie. They were new pie. A billionaire’s gain is not, by itself, your loss. The error is treating wealth as a plate that only gets divided, rather than an oven that keeps baking.
