MRD in Early-Stage NSCLC: Breakthrough or Not Yet? 🧬🔬
The conversation around Minimal Residual Disease (MRD) is heating up here at MTTB 2026. As we look at the evolution of ctDNA—from its first detection in 1948 to the clinical validations of today—the big question remains: Is it ready for prime time?
Key Insights from the session:
- Outcome Correlation: MRD positivity is consistently linked to worse clinical outcomes.
- Survival Indicators: Conversely, ctDNA clearance is showing a strong link to improved survival rates.
- The "Actionability" Gap: While the data is powerful, MRD status is not yet considered actionable for making definitive treatment decisions in standard practice.
We are standing on the edge of a major shift in how we monitor lung cancer, but we’re not quite there yet.
💬 Engagement Prompt: If a patient is MRD positive after surgery, would you feel comfortable changing their treatment plan based on that data today? Let’s hear your clinical perspective below.

Merry Christmas from your on-call hem/onc fellow at Mass General Hospital!
Thinking of everyone in the hospital today. It can be a tough day to be here, as an employee but even more so as a patient. Hoping the day can be as merry as reasonably possible.
