I read about grandmother Zhenya, who froze to death in her apartment in Kyiv. She survived the Holocaust, but did not survive this winter. It turns out we were almost neighbors; she lived at Podil.
The Russians killed an elderly couple who were trying to evacuate on their own from an occupied village in the Sumy region. The man was pulling his wife on a sled through the snow. First, one FPV drone targeted the woman. The second drone attacked the already wounded man, who remained next to her body.
In the Kharkiv region, Russian Shahed drones targeted a passenger train. The car caught fire, there were killed and injured people, and all the passengers were evacuated.
The Russians hit a residential building with a drone last night in the Kyiv region. A 4-year-old girl was rescued by a neighbor. Her parents were crushed and burned alive.
Next week it will be minus - 22 C (degree Celsius), -7.6 F (degree Fahrenheit), so there will be large-scale shelling again on the weekend.
People are freezing not just in Kyiv. This photo is from Lviv. The temperature in the room when there is no electricity. 12°C (degree Celsius) is 53.6°F (degree Fahrenheit).
Why has Trump's year of negotiations with Putin become the deadliest year for civilians in Ukraine since 2022?
Because the human dimension in this war doesn't matter to the US negotiators. So, Putin decided he could do whatever he wanted.

Students at @TelAvivUni covered all of the chairs in their auditorium with photos and names of the Israeli men, women and children murdered by Hamas.
A heartbreaking and stirring tribute to the dead.
May their souls rest in peace.
To the presidents of @Columbia, @nyuniversity, @Harvard and other universities who have stood SILENT as terror supporters have marched through campus and celebrated raping women, executing children and kidnapping grandmothers, you are cowards.
Listen to Columbia Professor and father @ShaiDavidai’s heartbreaking speech:
The poet WH Auden died in his sleep in a Vienna hotel 50 years ago today, on 29 September 1973, at the age of 66. He was buried in the village cemetery at Kirchstetten, where he lived. Writing about himself as a child, he recorded that he had been: 'the son of book-loving Anglo-Catholic parents of the professional class, the youngest of three brothers, I was - and in most respects still am - mentally precocious, physically backward, short-sighted, a rabbit at all games, very untidy and grubby, a nail-biter, a physical coward, dishonest, sentimental, with no community sense whatever, in fact a typical little highbrow and difficult child.' He went to America in the 1930s and later took American citizenship, before moving back to Europe in the 1950s.
The young Auden had been a pupil at Greshams, a public school in Holt, Norfolk. One of his near-contemporaries there was the composer Benjamin Britten, who was six years younger. Auden later became a friend to the young Britten and wrote the libretto of his first opera, 'Paul Bunyan', although they were later estranged, as often seems to have happened with Britten's collaborators. Auden, accused in the late 1930s of knowing nothing about fascism when he went into exile in the United States, is said to have retorted "On the contrary, at school I lived for years under a fascist regime."
One of Britten's biographers observed of Greshams that the boys were warmly rewarded for informing on any hints of physical intimacy in the friendships of others, which would then be beaten out of them. One suspects that Auden had more reason to resent this practice than Britten, who was rather more circumspect about his sexuality. Each of them has an entrance to the school named after them, which would have amused Auden, I'm sure.
1/4. Plan was to work on freedom book at Sabaneev cafe here in Odesa. Hadn't realized it was hit by a rocket during the Russian attack on the historic city center on 23 July.
Everyday another towns or cities attacked. This morning at 10-25 am russian drone destroyed school in Romny, Sumy region. There were only teachers inside preparing classrooms for 1st of September. Now kids of this school have nowhere to go, their teachers are killed.
#Russian attack on port of #Izmail destroyed 13,000 tons of grain this night. Here are my friends American volunteer Robert Gamble and Ukrainian volunteer Olha Balaban sitting in the corridor of their apartment while bombing. Robert writes: “"You can hear it coming," One of four Russian drones hits the port of Izmail, Ukraine. We sat against a wall, shielded from the window. Two landed about 100 yards away, fires are still burning. You can hear the whine of the engine and propeller, the sound of machine guns trying to shoot it down, and the explosion.” #RussiaisATerroistState #ukraine #grain #terror
