They're baaaaaack! It's been a long cold winter but our favorite farm animals are back in #LordsPark ready for the opening of Tefft Farm on Saturday 30 May! And this year they're joined by some very special friends ... look carefully and you may see them in the background!
Deck the halls, the bears are rockin' to @Moonalice! Great harmonies, @TSistersmusic! 💜

My photo of a wild feral Rose-ringed Parakeet at Hyde Park caused quite a stir!
Amongst the many Parakeet detractors was a famous pop star living in Manchester..
My opinion is this... whatever the pest status of this beautiful bird, whatever issues they may cause... it's not the birds fault..
Most, if not all, instances of invasive alien species are down to man. It was man who introduced them, either purposely or unwittingly, into ecosystems that they do not belong in.
As a bird lover, my main concern is how their presence affects our native species.. Will they compete for food and nest sites?
The Parakeet population is growing rapidly and spreading across the UK... I was very surprised to hear from the aforementioned pop star that there is already a big population in Manchester!
It's not all bad news for our native birds though, apparently Peregrine Falcons have taken to preying on Parakeets, so there are some natural controls at least!
In Hyde Park, some of the Parakeets have braved taking nuts and apples directly from tourists.... as shown in my video from the weekend.
There's no doubt that they're beautiful birds, though it feels very surreal seeing such an exotic species living wild in the UK.

Elgin Public Museum is open again for winter hours on Saturday and Sunday afternoons (12 - 4pm)! Lots to see and do including great new items in the gift shop and fantastic new murals!
We're getting ready for Saturday reopening with a deep cleaning! Hand-washing the mosaic tile floors, Murphy's-ing the railings, cleaning all the glass, you name it. If it doesn't move, clean it, and if it does, swoosh it with the feather duster anyway!
