How do we measure shaking in an earthquake?
Magnitude measures the size of the quake - but how much shaking you feel depends on how close you are to the fault, the materials under your feet, and more.
Here is a map of shaking in the #TurkeySyriaEarthquake

This project is funded within the framework of the @DAAD_Germany ”University partnerships with Iraq 2022-2023" program. The partnership aims at developing a framework for good engineering practices and hazard oriented standard building design regulations in the #Kurdistan region.
I am delighted to be working through the next two years in the managment of a DAAD funded project under the title "Multiscale consequence studies for hazard impact on structures in Iraq".
https://t.co/CIVUKQduuA
The project will focus on analyzing the effects of natural hazards and their severity on structures in Kurdistan/Iraq, while developinig robust solutions to reform design concepts/construction practices, introduce/apply efficient hazard mitigation measures.
@LastQuake The contact us section of your website is not operational, and I couldnt find an email adress. Is there a request for contributing on different languages? how can we get in touch?
