Today’s farmers are already facing razor-thin margins and economic pressure. Asking them to switch crops, retool their operations, and enter unfamiliar markets adds another layer of financial stress.
Candidate Sarah Taber doesn't seem to get this.

9am Saturday update:
The gravity of this event is difficult to fathom. There are entire communities in the mountains that have been destroyed. Huge numbers of lives have been forever altered. We don't yet know the scope of the lives lost or the communities destroyed due to the factors I'll discuss below. Many impacted areas remain completely landlocked due to washed out roads, flooding, and landslides.
In the days, weeks, and months ahead, there will be tons of needs to be met and opportunities to help our fellow North Carolinians.
***As of this typing, over 719,000 customers remain without power in North Carolina. Some counties have essentially every customer without power, and almost every county west of Highway 321 has well over 50% outages. Many of these restoration efforts will take an extended period of time due to there being severe damage or destruction to the entire power infrastructure in the area. This isn't just a matter of replacing a power pole or line in many cases.
***The communications infrastructure remains severely degraded or destroyed in many of the heavily impacted areas in the mountains. Many people continue to try to find information about loved ones, but in some cases, there is just no means of communication in or out. I have had people reach out to me trying to find out information. Likely, and hopefully, in most cases everyone is fine. But there's just not an easy way to get information in our out.
***Though the rain is over, the river flooding will be an ongoing problem for a few days. These flood waters will work their way through the river systems, and high water levels will continue well down-river for days to come. For instance, the Catawba River, and all if its tributaries, will continue to run very high. Duke Energy continues to manage the dam system and get that water through the system in the best way possible.
***Do not make any non-essential travel to western NC. Many roads are still impassible or gone, and search and recovery efforts continue.

Today I am honored to announce that I will be serving as the new President of the Triad Real Estate and Building Industry Coalition (TREBIC). This is a great organization that works with various stakeholders to promote a vibrant real estate industry. Our work at TREBIC is going to be more important than ever with all of the new jobs that are coming to the Triad region. We must prepare for sustained growth in housing, commercial, and industrial sectors. I am honored to have this opportunity, and I look forward to the work ahead.
Labor Force 1 had a meeting with a wild turkey on I-40. The bird flew across traffic and collided with our car, nearly crashing through the windshield and causing significant damage to the roof and interior. The good news is that no one was hurt and no other vehicles were involved. I have been thinking about turkey hunting, but this is not what I had in mind!
Labor Force 1 is down but not out — repair work will soon be underway 🇺🇸
I hate it for the turkey, but it is safe to bet that his or her demise happened rather quickly. Happy Thanksgiving, I suppose? 🦃🤷🏻♂️

Former NC Farm Bureau President @petertdaniel says One Earth Fund pays newspapers to write hit pieces on their agricultural targets, then they use those newspaper articles to increase their credibility with legislators.
