She'll lecture you all day about sovereign Scotland and the wickedness of Westminster. With an accent about as authentic as a hairline on a flight back from Turkey.

Schooling? English. Law degrees? London, the lot. LSE for the masters, a King's doctorate binned the second a £98k MP salary turned up, the Bar at Middle Temple. Not one Scottish institution got a look in.

The accent? She's admitted the plummy English vowels "stuck" after years living down south. Yet plant her at the despatch box and out comes a wee Scottish lilt that sounds knocked together from a dodgy panto.

English schooling, English voice, English law. All of it pointed at one idea: that England is the problem. The accent's flexible. The principles are gymnastics!
