The High Court of The Gambia ruled that parents of children who died from acute kidney injury (AKI) after consuming contaminated medicines can sue the government and related entities.

The court rejected the state’s claim of sovereign immunity and affirmed that the Medicine Control Agency and the Ministry of Health are liable for failing in their regulatory duties.

The ruling allows the parents to proceed with their lawsuit against these agencies and others involved in the case.
