🧬 New paper: SARS‑CoV‑2 doesn’t just disrupt the microbiome: it reshapes the phageome.
@siddharthstomar & @CsirEvc share their findings showing phage richness skyrockets in infected individuals (79 vs. 28 genera), bacterial diversity drops. Read more: https://t.co/a5q4clT3ux

K. pneumoniae persists up to 24 h on hospital surfaces, with persistence at 24°C. Osorio et al. from Columbia show a 3‑phage cocktail delivers ~5‑log killing in 6 h and prevents disinfectant‑linked regrowth.

Bacteria has a tiny motor that makes them move- "flagellar motor"
It operates like an outboard motor, spinning a tail-like flagellum. Powered by a stream of protons, this nanomachine can rotate hundreds of times per second, enabling bacteria to swim, tumble, and navigate toward nutrients
New article🔎🥼
The efforts of Soviet scientist, Prof M.I. Lurie, towards phage therapy mechanisms in the 1930s.
This article would be greatly beneficial to anyone interested in the history of phage therapy and bacteriophages.

Excited to share that our latest paper is published @ScienceMagazine
We show that HGT via natural competence drives diversification of chromosomal integrons in V. cholerae.
Thanks to Laurie, Sandrine, Loriane & Alexandre for their help with this study🥳

The STING protein plays an essential role in immune defense across life. Its core machinery has been structurally preserved across billions of years of evolution, but its underlying gene sequences differ widely between organisms. https://t.co/dHOZhPufXE
Very excited to share our new paper! Homing endonuclease SegB drives segmental amplification of anti-defense loci, enabling phages to escape multiple bacterial defense systems.

Big thanks to Kotaro Chihara and to the Vasili lab.
What's especially cool is that the flagellar motor exploits the indivisibility of 5 by 2 to run on a fuel of rising entropy as protons diffuse into cells. For me as a physics and math person, this is biology at its best. https://t.co/TBAP5H3vR3
Most bacteria remain uncultured and don’t grow in the lab.. to address this am excited to share EDEN - an enhanced domestication method to grow uncultured bacteria & new diversity. Using EDEN we isolate a new species active against MDR pathogens..

📢 New publication in @PLOS Global Public Health
Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae infections are curable but often asymptomatic. When left undiagnosed, they can lead to serious complications and continued transmission.
In Kenya, a multi-center prevalence study by GARDP, the @MOH_Kenya and the @DNDi found:
• Gonorrhoea prevalence was 1.0% in pregnant women and 9.4% in key populations (at higher risk for STIs)
• Chlamydia prevalence was high in both groups: 9.6% in pregnant women and 11.2% in key populations
• Younger individuals, particularly those under 20, carried the highest burden
With STI care being largely syndromic, strengthening diagnostics 🧪 and surveillance will be critical to protect reproductive health and support antimicrobial stewardship 💊
