🇪🇺 Qwant is now the default search engine of the European Parliament 🇪🇺
We have been informed that our search engine, Qwant, will be configured as the default search engine on the European Parliament's internal computers, including searches performed from the address bar of Firefox and Edge browsers, starting today, Thursday June 4, 2026.
We welcome this news as confirmation of the relevance of an industrial project we have been committed to for several years: building, in Europe, a search alternative aligned with the rights, interests and values of European users.
This choice is an important recognition and a simple, clear message sent to businesses and institutions alike: Switch to Europe. Digital sovereignty is no longer a vague concept, it is a concrete criterion in the technological choices of individuals and organizations of all sizes.
This is also an additional responsibility for Qwant and its teams - to prove that a European, sovereign, credible and trustworthy path is possible.
Switch to Europe. Now.

@Proton_Pass I used to teach a college course "Freedom, Privacy, and Technology". It was very rewarding and the students brought a diversity of perspectives to the classroom. Don't know if I taught anything, but I learned a lot.
‼️🚨 ALARMING: Google now treats privacy as suspicious behavior by default. Users of GrapheneOS, CalyxOS, /e/OS, and other deGoogled Android phones are being locked out of millions of websites unless they install the exact Google Play Services software they deliberately removed.
GrapheneOS is recommended by the EFF and used by journalists, lawyers, and activists in high-risk environments. The audience most likely to read Google's data practices and refuse its terms is now flagged as fraudulent for that exact decision.
What happened?:
▪️ Google announced "Cloud Fraud Defense" at Cloud Next on April 22-23, 2026, branding it "the next evolution of reCAPTCHA." Existing reCAPTCHA customers were auto-migrated.
▪️ When the system flags traffic as suspicious, the old click-the-bus puzzle is gone. Users get a QR code instead.
▪️ Scanning the QR code requires Google Play Services running on the device. Internet Archive snapshots show this requirement has been live since at least October 2025, silently rolled out for 7 months before anyone noticed.
▪️ No Play Services = no QR scan = locked out.
The bigger picture:
▪️ Google already tried this in 2023. It was called Web Environment Integrity (WEI), and it would have let Google decide which devices were "real enough" to access the web. Standards bodies and the public pushed back hard, and Google killed it. Three years later, the same idea is back, just hidden behind a QR code instead of a browser feature.
▪️ reCAPTCHA runs on millions of websites. Every developer who keeps using it is now, by default, telling deGoogled Android users they're not welcome...
Meta says it may have to shut down Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp for everyone in New Mexico.
The company issued this warning in a court document as part of an ongoing lawsuit that New Mexico started in 2023.
The state claims Meta let kids see harmful and addictive content, including messages from predators, and did not tell families the truth about the risks.
In March 2026, a jury agreed with the state and ordered Meta to pay a $375 million fine.
The state now wants major changes including:
-stronger age verification checks
-safety-first content suggestions
-private accounts by default for kids
-easier ways to report and block users.
Meta says these rules are too difficult and too expensive and would need to create separate versions of its apps just for New Mexico
The company adds that it does not want to shut down service in the state but may have no other choice if the court orders full compliance.
New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez called the warning a pressure tactic. He said the real issue is protecting children, not company profits.
