84 years ago today, a pilot running out of fuel made a decision that won the Pacific War. Most Americans have never heard his name.

June 4, 1942. Six months after Pearl Harbor, Japan's navy is undefeated. Four of the carriers that burned Pearl, Akagi, Kaga, Soryu, and Hiryu, are steaming toward Midway to finish off the US Pacific Fleet.

At 7:52 AM, Wade McClusky launches from USS Enterprise leading 32 Dauntless dive bombers. Here's the detail nobody mentions: McClusky is a fighter pilot. He'd been given the air group weeks earlier and had barely flown a dive bomber in combat. Now he's leading every SBD the Enterprise has at the most important target in the Pacific.

9:20 AM. He arrives at the intercept point where the Japanese fleet is supposed to be.

Empty ocean. Nothing for miles.

The Japanese had turned. Nobody knew where. And now McClusky owns the worst math problem in naval aviation: his fuel is bleeding away, and every minute he keeps searching, he condemns more of his own pilots to ditch in open water where nobody will find them.

Doctrine is clear. Turn back.

McClusky keeps going. He works a search pattern, squeezing miles out of dying fuel tanks.

9:55 AM. Far below, a single Japanese destroyer is cutting a white scar across the ocean at flank speed. It's the Arashi, racing to rejoin the fleet after depth-charging the American submarine Nautilus. Think about that. A failed sub attack is about to give away the entire Japanese navy.

McClusky reads the wake like an arrow and follows it.

10:02 AM. The horizon fills with the entire Japanese strike force. Four carriers, their decks crammed with planes being refueled and rearmed. Fuel lines snaking everywhere. Bombs stacked in the open.

And here's the miracle: the sky above them is empty. Minutes earlier, American torpedo squadrons had attacked at sea level and been annihilated. Torpedo 8 lost all 15 planes. One survivor, Ensign George Gay, watched what came next while hiding under his seat cushion in the water. Those doomed pilots dragged every Japanese fighter down to the waves. The door upstairs was wide open.

10:22 AM. McClusky pushes over from 14,500 feet. Both squadrons follow him down onto Kaga. It's actually a mistake, doctrine said split the targets, but Lt. Dick Best catches it mid-dive, pulls out with two wingmen, and goes after Akagi alone. His single bomb pierces the flight deck into the packed hangar. It's enough.

By 10:28, Kaga, Akagi, and Soryu, the third hit simultaneously by Yorktown's bombers, are floating infernos. Six minutes. Three carriers that attacked Pearl Harbor, gone. Hiryu follows them to the bottom that evening.

The cost of McClusky's gamble was real. Many Enterprise bombers never made it home, some shot down, others swallowed by the sea when their tanks ran dry. McClusky himself was jumped by two Zeros on the way out, took five bullets through his shoulder, and still flew his shot-up Dauntless back to the Enterprise.

Admiral Nimitz said McClusky's decision "decided the fate of our carrier task force and our forces at Midway." Japan never won another major battle.

One borrowed pilot. One destroyer's wake. One choice to keep flying when every gauge said go home.

Macron l'a qualifié de plus fort que l'article 5, avec « aucune place pour l'interprétation ou l'ambiguïté » et, de manière cruciale, il ne nécessite pas la bénédiction de Washington.

Elle a déjà été utilisée. Lorsque Chypre a été menacée dans les premiers jours de la guerre en Iran, la France, la Grèce, l'Espagne, l'Italie, les Pays-Bas et le Portugal ont précipitamment déployé des moyens militaires sur l'île – le premier véritable test de l'article 42.7 dans une crise réelle. Le Premier ministre grec Mitsotakis l'a qualifié de « gamechanger ». For nearly four decades, NATO’s eyes in the sky have been American. The Boeing E-3 Sentry, a militarized 707 with a rotating radar dish on top, has been the alliance’s airborne early warning backbone since the 1980s. Washington built it. Washington sold it. Washington serviced it.
That era ended this week.

NATO’s Support and Procurement Agency has selected the Swedish Saab GlobalEye to replace all 14 of the alliance’s aging E-3 aircraft, in a deal worth around 5 billion euros. The contract goes to Sweden and Canada. Not a single American company involved.

The decision follows the US cancelling its own E-7 Wedgetail procurement in June 2025, shifting instead toward satellite surveillance under the Golden Dome concept. When Washington pulled out, it assumed NATO would wait. NATO didn’t wait.

The GlobalEye uses a fixed AESA radar rather than the E-3’s rotating dish, enabling faster target detection across air, sea, and land at ranges exceeding 550 kilometres, with endurance of over 13 hours per sortie. It is smaller, cheaper to operate, and requires fewer crew. Unit cost sits at roughly 550 million euros, against significantly higher estimates for the E-7.
France had already ordered two. Poland and Germany were circling. Now NATO has formalised it for the whole alliance.

Trump spent 14 months telling Europe to spend more on defence and rely less on America. Europe listened. He just didn’t expect them to mean it quite so literally.

BREAKING: Rep. Jamie Raskin introduces EXPLOSIVE bill to evaluate Trump under 25th Amendment authority — and 50 Democrats immediately sign on as co-sponsors Jamie Raskin has had enough of having a completely demented madman as president. So he's decided to do something about it — with 50 colleagues standing behind him.

The top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee introduced legislation Tuesday to establish a "Commission on Presidential Capacity to Discharge the Powers and Duties of Office" — a 17-member body authorized under Section 4 of the 25th Amendment to determine whether Donald Trump is mentally and physically capable of serving as president.
The evidence Raskin cited in introducing the bill reads like a highlight reel of a presidency in freefall. Trump threatened to destroy "a whole civilization" over a shipping deadline he posted on Truth Social. He published an image of himself as Jesus Christ — then claimed he was portraying himself as a doctor. He attacked Pope Leo, the first American pope in history. He launched an unauthorized war in Iran without a congressional vote, in violation of the War Powers Act. He nearly blurted out classified troop numbers at a press conference before his own Joint Chiefs chair had to stop him. He set four consecutive deadlines against Iran and backed down from every single one.

"Public trust in Donald Trump's ability to meet the duties of his office has dropped to unprecedented lows," Raskin said. "We are at a dangerous precipice, and it is now a matter of national security for Congress to fulfill its responsibilities under the 25th Amendment."

Let's be honest about the math. The 25th Amendment has never been used to end a presidency. It would require JD Vance and a majority of Trump's own cabinet to declare him unfit — the same cabinet that paid $35 million to buy their jobs and has spent months nodding along to everything Trump says. Then, if Trump disputed it — which he would, loudly, on Truth Social, probably while posting another Jesus picture — two-thirds of both chambers of Congress would have to agree. That's a higher bar than impeachment.

Raskin knows this bill won't remove Trump tomorrow. That's not entirely the point. The point is to force a conversation that the White House desperately does not want to have — about a 79-year-old man who is threatening civilizational annihilation on social media, comparing himself to Jesus, ignoring his own generals, hiding war casualties, and calling his diplomatic strategy "J.D. and Steve and Jared."

The White House response to Raskin's earlier request for a cognitive evaluation was: "Lightweight Jamie Raskin is a stupid person's idea of a smart person." Which is obviously not the response everyone would like to see: "The president will be happy to take a cognitive test."

Meanwhile, Republican Rep. Marlin Stutzman of Indiana reassured everyone that Trump is "one of the greatest presidents our nation has ever seen" and is "making the entire planet safer" — this being the same planet where Austria, Italy, and Spain have closed their airspace to American warplanes, and allies believe America has "lost its mind."

Fifty Democratic co-sponsors. A formal bill. A 72-hour medical examination requirement. And a president who responded to questions about his mental fitness by posting a picture of himself as Jesus.

Who still thinks we don’t need a commission like Raskin and his co-sponsors have proposed?

BREAKING: Trump's nemesis Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney scores a massive election victory and secures a majority government — proving that the world is starving for sane leadership.

“Mark Carney entered the political arena about 15 months ago, but he is proving himself to be an astute politician,” said Daniel Béland, a political-science professor at McGill University. “He remains popular nearly a year after leading his party to victory in late April 2025 and, with the help of a series of floor-crossings, he is now at the helm of a majority government that provides more stability and greater capacity to move forward with his economic and policy agenda.”

The candidates running from Carney's Liberal Party won big during a round of special election last night, winning two parliamentary districts with a third projected win in sight. Thanks to these results, Carney will be able to remain in power until at least 2029, outlasting Trump's presidency.

Carney was able to get elected over his conservative opponent originally in part because of backlash against the Trump presidency. Canadians were infuriated about the calls to make their country the "51st state" and voted accordingly.

Since becoming prime minister, Carney has boldly held the line against Trump. He has condemned his illegal Iran War as a "failure of the international order" and urged immediate deescalation, strong words from the leader of America's closest ally.

In January, Carney made waves around the world — and ruffled MAGA feathers — by declaring at the World Economic Forum that American global dominance is ending because "this bargain no longer works." He outlined how the destabilizing effects of the Trump presidency are rewriting the global power structure. Canada will now look to other nations to build their prosperity, relying less on the United States which is always just one bad election away from another Trump.

Clearly, Carney's vision of the future has struck a chord with Canadians. While he's leading them towards prosperity and a new era within the global community, Trump is dragging our country into a new dark age.
