I am a Christian who considers Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy, and Protestantism, to each be valid expressions of the Christian faith.

@PAHoyeck I think what the argument boils down to, is that we all know Christianity is true when we hear it. So if you're not a Christian, but you're willing to consider Christianity, pray to the God you really know is there, and hope he helps you come to faith in him.

Dear Christians, in case it is relevant to you or someone you know:

If human beliefs are fallible, that applies to the human belief that the Bible (the Church, Pope, etc.) is infallible.

Even if the Bible IS infallible, your BELIEF in it is not.

Application: if reason or evidence challenges your belief in a divine source, you should NOT automatically subject your evidence to [your prior belief in] that source.

Privileging one fallible belief over all others is epistemically bad practice. The habit leads you to be a prisoner of whoever can convince you that THEY speak for God (even *if* they do).

This point isn’t brought up nearly enough, but Joe is exactly right. On naturalism there’s no reason to think our moral intuitions would be in accord with moral facts because evolution isn’t about morality… it’s about survival. Honey bees, badgers, ants, lions… these all have wildly different survival strategies and social instincts that humans would find abhorrent, but that’s just because we evolved differently… not because what they do actually IS abhorrent.

In other words, if you believe that you have accurate moral intuitions, you shouldn’t be a naturalist.

The good news is that whereas the Democrats discredited government by either technocratic liberal elites or woke fanatics, and the establishment GOP discredited government by right-liberals and neocons, MAGA has now discredited government by populist yahoos and personality cults. So that’s progress. And of course, the twentieth century had already discredited government by fascists, communists, and socialists.

Now all that is needed is to disabuse people of the ridiculous idea that these exhaust the alternatives.
