given that philosophy seems to be obsessed with rankings i propose we do a ranking of philosophy departments based on number of sexual predators they’re willingly protecting

this isn’t a hot take if you put your phone down and go out you will see 3 out of 5 women drop their careers to become housewives and stay at home mothers after marriage while men continue like nothing changed. choice feminism isn’t feminism
We had one professor who married his student (before we started the university). And every once in a while during lectures with him I thought how that means that he can potentially see us as potential romantic partners too. And it’s so ewwww.
"Conduct of HR department is deeply concerning ... The lack of transparency, deliberate witholding of information with intention to mislead ... lack of any meaningful investigation into what happened" (Recent Employment Tribunal)
Could be any University, but it's Nottingham
Voice of Victim
"I complained about a senior Professor
The University pretended to be kind & sympathetic in the beginning
This was to lure me into a corrupt 'investigation' process that only exists to silence & distract the complainants
I never finished my PhD"
@PhilosophyMeToo was unsurprised to see this in the epstein files
everyone who runs these institutions knows how the grievance process works to keep abusers in power
wondering when i will just have enough of academia antics and start dropping all of the names of professors i know who are creeps including the one who did it to me
and the ones who defended him. and the ones who made jokes that were too messed up to even repeat. i know all of you and i wish that one day there would be justice
I'm as prison reform as it gets but if you lure multiple women to an underpass to rape them at knife point with your friends while recording it on your phone and goading each other on I actually think you should be put in a giant blender.
"The Royal Society is considering what it should do about the future of Huppert’s fellowship, which he has held since 1987"
We know how this ends: with measured concern, thoughtful discussion, lessons learned ... and no action whatsoever

Yet another professor whose behaviour had sparked "concerns for years".
Yet another professor whose misconduct is only acted upon because of media scrutiny.
It's clear that Oxbridge still must be prodded and poked to take action to protect students.

I had a professor confide in me today that he doesn’t go to Burger King because he doesn’t have the correct cultural capital to order there and is thus uncomfortable doing so. He said it is a working class place and it would be symbolic violence for him to step foot in there.
