We have a strong potential to uplift Uganda as a nation very quickly. The oil and gas industry serves as a robust and strong platform for growth and we should strongly support it.

The Ugandan economy was humming along nicely in the 1990s/early 2000s. Poverty was on its way down, and Uganda was so successful at implementing economic reforms that, in 1997, the nation was one of only a few to receive international debt relief. It has continued to qualify for relief ever since.
Since 2011, however, Uganda’s economy has slowed down, making it more difficult to fight poverty.
Experts say Uganda needs two things to grow: economic diversity and more exports. The EACOP, Kingfisher, and Telenga projects provide both.
Without the proposed economic shot in the arm (and glimmer of hope) provided by oil development, there’s no question that Uganda’s economic stall will be more protracted, the way out even rougher, and more people will be plunged back into economic despair.
Don’t just take my word for it: Even the World Bank acknowledges that oil production is required to get Uganda back on track.
#Uganda needs oil development to avoid large-scale job loss, bankruptcies among Ugandan companies, austerity measures, and possibly even instability. The country needs those 4,200 local jobs from oil many more multiplier jobs. What it doesn’t need are wealthy elitist NGOs concerned about protecting the continent from itself and trying to limit economic advancement in Africa in the name of climate change.
