Doctor is derived from the Latin docere- to teach. Historically it was reserved for physicians and PhD in academic settings. Now everyone wants in, including nurses. Nurses introducing themselves as doctor with patients are usurping the title inappropriately.

Worked at a facility with non-physician providers who truly felt they were equal in knowledge and skill to the board certified physicians. Care was impacted by their unwillingness to listen to the experts. If you want great care, go to a system that advertises physician led care.
Filling the primary care gap with non-physician practitioners will worsen outcomes for patients, increase debt, and cause physician burnout. Learn more in this Radio Health Journal interview with our board member, Christin Giordano, MD. https://t.co/ytegPvaPLF
For anyone unsure whether physician led care is needed, you can see horror stories everyday on r/noctor. Share the truth with legislators-physician care is higher quality and less expensive due to knowledge and skill.

Medicare’s physician payment formula (the Conversion Factor)?
Down 9.9%.
That’s not “fiscal responsibility.”
That’s institutional gaslighting.

But the doctors treating Medicare patients?
They’re being asked to do more with less, year after year, because “𝐡𝐞𝐲, 𝐰𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐞𝐥𝐬𝐞”, while the cost of running a practice skyrockets.
If the American people want Congress to preserve access to care for aging Americans, it’s time to speak up and tie Medicare’s payment formula to inflation, just like their own salaries.

It’s nurses week. Thank you to all the floor and ICU nurses who are our eyes and ears every day. The procedural nurses who help keep patients safe, the nurse anesthetists who care for patients with the Anesthesiologists and the NP who coordinate care with many physicians.
@SPuro88 Robotic appy is not appropriate. Full stop. Robotic gallbladder isn’t either. Show patients the difference in prices for hospital and professional charged and this will change.
CRNA complete 2000 hours of clinical training after working as an ICU nurse. They’re students when they’re in school, not residents. And they have 2 years less formal education and 10,000 hours less clinical training than Anesthesiologists. You deserve physician-led care.
Nurse practitioners are not board certified. They take a test to graduate from school. With 500 hours of clinical time. Physicians complete 10,000 hours of clinical training after graduating medical school (passing 3 tests) then complete board certification. See the difference?
Every single person who supports, normalises, justifies and celebrates child transition should be forced to listen to this woman. Never, ever claim you couldn't have known what you were so enthusiastically enabling. The evidence was right there in front of you.
Many physicians are now employed and are fearful of raising concerns about poor quality care by non-physician providers in their workplace. AANP and AANA are trying to legislate independent practice rather than taking the time to learn how to provide safe patient care. Scary
@ttaboutmedicine Have you ever needed care at the VA? That’s a single payer system without enough staff to care for patients, so they allow them to go outside. And Europe has dual payer-national health and private.
This is an information war street fight at the capitols across the country and it is clear that outright deception is being employed without fear of repercussions.
The above is in response to inaccurate comments by a nurse anesthetist who couldn’t get into medical school.
There is no “right” to supervise AAs under any federal or state law. This concept of “being discriminated against” has no basis in the Constitution. Nurses are not a protected class and there is no “right” for nurses to practice medicine (or nursing for that matter).
What is true is that when you deliberately use confusing titles to falsely elevate your background to claim equivalence at times you will be believed by those who are misinformed.
