It might be obvious why we give the orphans milk. But coconut oil? It is full of healthy fats and helps condition the skin for the youngest orphans. Not all the orphans like their spa sessions – Mbegu famously hated the stuff at the beginning and would try her hardest to wriggle away (a feat made much easier by the slippery stuff).
Wangalla has been much happier to partake – this was one of his sessions back in June. Discover why he’s in our care: https://t.co/loS0hJV6JZ
Bungalu has recently unveiled a little habit 🍼
When he arrives for his milk bottle – always at a steady, determined plod – he delicately twists the fingers of his trunk around the handle, almost as one might grasp a teacup. Though he isn’t yet strong enough to hold a full bottle by himself, by the time he has guzzled most of its contents, he can hold the bottle aloft unaided. Look how proud he looks!
A survivor of storms, lion attacks, and several weeks on his own, Bungalu now has the round-the-clock care, companionship, and love he needs to grow up strong and, one day, return to the wild. Find out how you can support him through an adoption: https://t.co/FeeHgVO9wM
150 seconds is all it took to remove a snare from this giraffe mother.
Dr Limo of the SWT/KWS Tsavo Mobile Vet Unit administered the sedative – half hanging out of a helicopter – then ground teams sprinted in to hold her steady and remove the snare. Giraffe anatomy makes anaesthesia notoriously risky, so she was given just enough to bring her safely to the ground, and it was reversed straight away.
Fortunately, the snare around her leg hadn’t yet caused serious injury. Within 2.5 minutes she was back on her feet and reunited with her baby.
With your support, our veterinary initiative has attended more than 14,000 wild patients to date, in partnership with the Kenya Wildlife Service. Learn more and support our conservation work: https://t.co/x1bzkWCgAK

“Because my #disability changes, my mobility aids change with it… That constant change attracts scrutiny… They expect that if you need a wheelchair once, you’ll need it always. When I don’t, I can feel their confusion harden into suspicion.” https://t.co/DOL9qNq1Ka #ChronicPain

Baby elephants don’t get much cuter than Comet. Born just last week, she is fresh from the womb but already walking around and doing what infant elephants are wont to do: sticking by Mum and figuring out how everything works.
Her mum, Chaimu, is an orphan we raised and returned to the wild. She has a stellar support network around her to nurture Comet through her infancy – and, as doting grandparents, we can’t wait to watch this beautiful little girl grow up in the wilds of Tsavo. Read: https://t.co/hbAEMxYDRi
From his bright button eyes to his perfectly round ears, his roly-poly antics and his absolute adoration for his Keepers, Bumpy has captured hearts at our Kaluku Unit for orphaned wild animals.
Just a few short months ago, he was found alone and frightened. Today, his days are spent splashing in his pool, sleeping by his Keeper’s side and forging friendships. In time, a life in the wild will beckon, too!

After eight months away roaming wild in Tsavo, baby Sia and her mum, ex-orphan Sagala, stopped by our Voi Reintegration Unit with their herd. Sia started a game of peekaboo and Keeper Walter, like the proud grandfather he is, obliged.
Every baby elephant is precious but, to us, Sia is doubly so: she is the offspring of two orphans we rescued and reintegrated into the wild and one of 95 calves we know of thanks to our Orphans’ Project. Meet the rest: https://t.co/gAYG28HymE
