Le choix de Parmitano parmi les européens pour aller sur Artemis III est logique.
C'est non seulement un des astronautes les plus expérimentés au monde (comme quasi toute la classe de 2009), mais l'Italie a aussi des relations privil��giées avec la NASA dans l'exploration.
En particulier l'Italie fait partie des 8 signataires fondateurs du programme Artemis, s'est engagé pour participer à la base lunaire en plus des engagements de l'ESA, et n'hésite pas à négocier des vols hors-quota lors de ces accords bilatéraux.
La France commence doucement à faire la même chose avec Vast. L'Allemagne, plus gros contributeur de l'ESA, se contente de leurs engagements via l'ESA, le DLR établissant plus rarement des accords directs avec la NASA.

The Artemis II crew named one of the lunar craters after the late wife of commander Reid Wiseman, Carroll, on Monday.

Before launching into space, Wiseman told CBS News' Mark Strassmann about how supportive his wife was of his career, even when she got sick with cancer and he offered to move closer to her family. "'This is the job you love... and this is where our kids are growing up and we're going to stay right here,'" Wiseman said she told him.

"That was marching orders to continue down this path."

Artemis II astronaut names moon crater in honor of his late wife.

Reid Wiseman lost his mother to Alzheimer’s and his wife to cancer just one month apart in 2020, leaving him to raise his daughters on his own, and years later during the Artemis II mission, he honored his late wife by naming a moon crater “Carroll” as the crew flew farther from Earth than ever before.
