Why do Marvel executives think making the X-men borderline evil characters under the guise of "Moral Ambiguity" is going to play well with mainstream audiences?

This part still doesn’t sit right with me…
Everyone knew Bruce wasn’t acting like himself, so why was the answer to lock him up in a psychiatric hospital instead of figuring out what actually happened?
It also surprised me that Peter barely said a word in Bruce’s defense.

There are female characters in the MCU that have actually gotten hate for doing the things Jean Grey does in this movie despite not actually doing them and Jean Grey is somehow getting support despite actually being guilty of those things…😐
