@QuelCGrammar @Toure I was being sarcastic...trying to mimic the people and brothers who lace their Afrocentrism with a fragile and toxic masculinity. I thought my smirk emoji gave it away...

@Emilee3D@msmegalodon .....and it's preposterous to believe that Chris Pratt holding his hand up and looking sternly would ever prevent a velociraptor from making him his lunch. I haaaaate that part. So dumb.
@evie_writes @_TJNewton_@msmegalodon That's how I felt about Black Adam. I'm a The Rock stan and love Mohammad Ammar, too....and thought the movie was one long running/CGI montage.
@1978fred@KirkWrites79 True dat. Plus, many of us African-Americans don't want to see our traumas on-screen, even when filmmakers like the Till director attempt to center joy. So if we don't show up, and then other races don't show up, quality movies that tell important stories don't succeed.
@tommarwilson@KirkWrites79 Totaaaally. I loved Sis. Danielle in harder they fall and knew she's bring it as Mama Till, though I haven't seen that one yet.
@1978fred@KirkWrites79 I will be surprised. The Academy has shown Black people over and over again that they don't respect or maybe simply can't fathom our artistic genius. I no longer wait for them to catch up.
@KirkWrites79 I said the saaaaaame thing. She was magnetic and perfect in every. single. scene. I know she likely has West African heritage....but despite being a Brit, you couldn't TELL me that chile wasn't born and raised in Nigeria!!
@katwoman96@pronounced_ing Ohhhh my myyyyy Up got me/gets me EVERRRRRY time!! There's another one that is at the beginning of Soul, I think, where the couple reminisces about their youth and dancing. That's an instant tearjerker too.
@pronounced_ing Why would they do that to us 90s kids?!!! And OMG...this song WAS the go-to for my teenage angst/brooding/heartbreak too!! ....what always got me...the instrumental break in the middle, dramatic build-up then the "and I"!! Lordt!
@marclamonthill If I say to myself "oh so this is why Bro. Hill got ud fiending for more Coffee and Books podcast eps" that'd be off-color or inappropriate, huh? :) I acknowledge that making the case for prison abolition and liberaton are more important than great convos for my daily walks. โ๐ฝ
As you shop and prepare your #Thanksgiving meals, we'd like you to know a little more about the work behind the ingredients and the people doing that work to put food on our tables.
Here's a thread for everyone who wants to thank a farm worker this week.
