Se llamaba GameStream. Venía integrado en GeForce Experience. Podías jugar cualquier juego de tu PC en tu tele, tu móvil, tu tablet. Sin suscripción. Sin límites. Simplemente funcionaba.

Y el 29 de marzo de 2023, NVIDIA lo borró a la fuerza.

Una actualización obligatoria de Shield TV eliminó la función de dispositivos que la gente ya había pagado. Tres semanas después llegó la demanda colectiva.

NVIDIA empujó a esos mismos clientes hacia GeForce NOW, de 9,99 a 19,99 dólares al mes. Y en enero de 2026 añadieron un límite de 100 horas mensuales.

Casualidad.

La comunidad no se quedó de brazos cruzados.

Hicieron ingeniería inversa del protocolo GameStream. Construyeron un servidor open source desde cero. Lo hicieron funcionar en GPUs NVIDIA. Luego AMD. Luego Intel.

La herramienta gratuita de NVIDIA solo funcionaba en hardware NVIDIA. La herramienta gratuita de la comunidad funciona en el hardware de todos.

Se llama Sunshine. 37.835 estrellas en GitHub. Licencia GPL-3.0.

Pero NO instales Sunshine. Mejor sigamos pagándole a NVIDIA 20 dólares al mes por lo que antes era gratis.
