@IanThom73800732@Robkitson222@andy4makerfield Do you genuinely think a local MP has a greater impact on the people of Makerfield than the decisions made by the Prime Minister of the country?
@DanNeidle I just feel like if you’re looking at a workers tax wedge… you have loads on Plan 2 loans etc. who are effectively paying a much higher % of their income than just what it shown if you consider only income tax. Can you really squeeze a middle earning grad much more?
@DanNeidle When student loans effectively act as a graduate tax on 40% of young people. Not sure comparing the U.K with other big Euro countries where Uni fees are heavily subsidised at a minimum - is very ‘like for like’
@temuka1286 What if reducing inequality is more important than increasing GDP by ‘X’ amount? What if less inequality is actually good for economic growth anyway…
@temuka1286@AaronBastani Money is essentially a competitive token that you exchange for resources… so the share of the pie does obviously matter when you are competing against others for those resources.
@DPJHodges You missed the part where he talks about Universities, the private sector and educating people on implementing AI. His son’s company offers apprenticeships on just that - currently funded by the Government’s apprenticeship levy. Very convenient.
@worstall@CurtisDaly_ People working also makes the future richer. Perhaps we should be very careful about killing the incentives that lead people to work.
@harryph@spectator Utilisation isn’t even the best measure for it being better or not. The Bee Network now runs more frequently to areas that were more remote and unserved before. It’s providing a vital service to those communities. Old people being able to get to the local town etc.
