@Vabbi2003 @Li33aaa I agree, especially since DS is kind of shown in the media as this stereotyped bubbly happy result of something going wrong. My sister is a ray of sunshine too, but it doesn’t take away from the reality of DS and I hope someday people get more education on it!

Pop used to be kind of corny regardless but it had a charm and now everything sounds like it’s trying to be a Taylor song they’re trying to replicate the success without realizing she’s pretty much only successful (1/2)

@beebetbetty @Li33aaa Exactly! If we lived in a world that wasn’t ableist maybe a world where we couldn’t “cure” disabilities it wouldn’t be a big deal, but the lack of infrastructure for disabled folks is abysmal and no one wants to change it 🤪

@Vabbi2003 @Li33aaa Yup! DS is one of the things I’d never wish upon my kid, coming from someone who has a sister with DS. The shortened lifespan along with the health issues and the cognitive impairment makes it a hard life. It breaks my heart knowing my little sister will never be independent :(

@Li33aaa Precisely, it’s a spectrum. For some ppl w DS it’s not debilitating, but for my sister? She’ll never be able to live on her own, or drive. She was born w so many birth defects she spent the first five yrs of her life in and out of surgery. This is objectively a good thing.
