@DrVivekHMurthy Thank you for your wisdom on the show today. There is an underground movement happening in America right now called @F3Nation.

We have solved the problem of male loneliness. We have over 100,000 men participating in over 5000 weekly free, outdoor workouts every single week.

Our mission is to plant, grow and serve small workout groups for the reinvigoration of male community leadership.

And it’s working. We have the numbers to prove it.

We have the solution. Can you help us grow its visibility?

Hi @JWhitePubRadio … I’m on hold right now to talk on your radio show about your topic of male loneliness. We truly have found a (the) solution in @f3nation.

I’ll prove it by showing how many shares this post gets.

I hope I get to a chance to share!

A notorious Russian arms dealer who was released in a US prisoner swap in 2022 is back in business and brokering a deal with Yemen’s Houthi rebels.

Let’s bring you up to speed: Viktor Bout, a Russian arms dealer who was nicknamed the “Merchant of Death” for his role in supplying weapons to warlords, rebel groups, and rogue states around the world, was arrested in 2008 in Thailand during a US-led sting operation and later extradited to the United States. In 2012, Bout was convicted on multiple charges, including conspiracy to kill US citizens and officials and conspiring to sell weapons to terrorists. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison. Despite this, Bout was released in a high-profile prisoner swap with US basketball player Brittney Griner, who had been detained in Russia on drug charges.

Back in business: According to the Wall Street Journal, Bout is involved in a deal worth $10 million with Yemen’s Houthi rebels. According to European intelligence sources cited by The Wall Street Journal, Bout met with Houthi representatives in Moscow in August to broker the sale of small arms, primarily automatic weapons. In addition, the Houthis have also shown interest in obtaining Kornet anti-tank missiles and anti-aircraft weapons from Bout.

Digging deeper: The WSJ sources say the deliveries of weapons could begin this month and could be concealed under the guise of humanitarian deliveries into Yemen’s port city of Hodeidah. Just this month, Russia has carried out multiple food deliveries to Yemen.

Bout’s lawyer comments: In a brief statement, Steve Zissou, a lawyer who defended Bout in the US, said, “Viktor Bout has not been in the transportation business for over 20 years. But if the Russian government authorized him to facilitate the transfer of arms to one of America’s adversaries, it would be no different than the US government sending arms and weapons of mass destruction to one of Russia’s adversaries as it has sent to Ukraine.”

This comes after the Houthis targeted US warships in the Red Sea last week. According to US Central Command, US warships successfully thwarted the attack.

Underreported: Eric Edelman, the Vice Chair of the National Defense Strategy Commission, told top Senate lawmakers on the Armed Services Committee that “there is the potential for a near-term war and a potential that we might lose such a conflict. The partnership that [has] emerged among China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea is a major strategic shift that we have not completely accounted for in our defense planning.”

Edelman also said that his commission’s report found that “China is in many ways outpacing the US. While we still have the strongest military in the world with the farthest global reach, when we get to 1,000 miles of China’s shore, we start to lose our military dominance and could find ourselves on the losing end of a conflict.”

Edelman also echoed warnings from other US officials that “China has infiltrated our critical infrastructure networks to prevent or deter US action by contesting our logistics, disrupting American power and water, and otherwise removing the sanctuary of the homeland that we have long enjoyed.”

Edelman also touched on Russia, saying, “Russia has reconstituted its own defense industrial base after it invaded Ukraine, much more rapidly than people anticipated. Vladimir Putin seeks to reassert Russia as a great power and is happy to destabilize the world in order to do so.”

Edelman said, “Clearly, Iran and North Korea both feel emboldened by the current environment.”

El Salvador’s press office announced that 2,000 suspected gang members have been transferred to the country’s newest maximum-security prison, which some officials have described as “hell on earth.”

A video released by the government this week showed shackled inmates being transported. According to the press office, these inmates, accused of being gang-affiliated, were moved to the CECOT (Counter-Terrorism Confinement Center) in the city of Tecoulca.

Since taking office, President Nayib Bukele has declared war on gangs, enacting new laws that permit the detention of individuals suspected of gang affiliation. This crackdown has led to the arrest of approximately 80,000 people in El Salvador. These laws also enable judges to expedite cases. President Bukele’s measures are widely popular in the country, as evidenced by his recent reelection, which resulted in him securing 84.65% of the vote.

Another view:
Despite these measures, critics, primarily from outside El Salvador, argue that they have led to arrests based on appearance or location. Humanitarian Legal Relief reports that at least 241 people have died in these new prisons, with claims of inmates being tortured.

Quick stats: The crackdown has led to significant changes in El Salvador. Officials report that the homicide rate has dropped to 2.4 per 100,000 people, a dramatic decrease from 103 per 100,000 eight years ago. El Salvador's current homicide rate is now lower than the United States (6.3 per 100,000 in 2022)
