रात 1 बजे पत्नी–बच्चों सहित मूवी देखकर लौट रहे बाइक सवार युवक को पुलिस ने चेकिंग के लिए रोका। बीच सड़क पर बाइक की चाभी निकाल ली। युवक ने मूवी टिकट भी दिखाया। पुलिस ने पत्नी के सामने युवक से दुर्व्यवहार किया, थप्पड़ मारा।

यूपी के मथुरा में एक दारोगा जी एक बित्ता भर के बच्चे को चोरी के आरोप में कॉलर पकड़कर खसीटे लिए जा रहे थे।

आशीष श्रीवास्तव नाम के एक युवक ने दारोगा जी को टोक दिया कि साहेब बच्चे को इस तरह क्यों खींचकर ले जा रहे हो?

दरोगा जी आहत हो गए। युवक को बलभर थपड़ियाया। उसे भी खींचते हुए चौकी ले गए और जमकर पिटाई की।

जिस देश में नेता दिन भर 'जिंदा गाड़ देंगे', 'उल्टा टांग देंगे', 'खाल खींच लेंगे' जैसी भाषा बोलते हों, वहां एक दारोगा से आप इससे ज्यादा की उम्मीद क्या कर सकते हैं?

कुएं में ही भांग पड़ी है। एक लोटा पानी निकालकर छान लेने से कुछ नहीं होगा। कुआं साफ करना होगा। वरना आज ये बच्चे हैं। कल आपके बच्चे होंगे। आज आशीष है, कल आप होंगे।

जयपुर में सीनियर IPS ऑफिसर किशन सहाय मीणा पर रेप की FIR दर्ज हुई है। महिला का आरोप है कि ऑफिसर ने शादी का झांसा देकर सरकारी आवास पर उसके साथ जबरदस्ती की।

2 साल पहले IPS किशन सहाय ने बयान दिया था– "ईश्वर, अल्लाह, गॉड जैसी कोई भी शक्ति न कभी थी, न होती है। धर्म ग्रंथों में जिनका भी वर्णन है, वह कल्पना मात्र है"

किशन सहाय इस वक्त राजस्थान में IG ह्यूमन राइट हैं।

His name is Mohammad Aamir Khan.

On the night of February 20, 1998, his mother asked him to buy medicines from a shop in Old Delhi. He was 18 years old.

He never made it to the shop.

Men in plain clothes stopped him on the street. He did not know they were police officers. They took him to an abandoned building. For seven days, he was held in illegal custody. He was tortured. He was forced to sign blank sheets of paper.

Then the Delhi Police Special Cell produced him in court and charged him with 19 counts of bombing across Delhi, Ghaziabad, Rohtak and Sonepat between December 1996 and October 1997.

He was presented to the media as a terrorist.

His family was never informed. They spent days searching police stations before finding out what had happened.

He spent 14 years in prison. Through torture. Through solitary confinement. He watched case after case fall apart in court as evidence was shown to be fabricated.

In 2012, he was acquitted in 17 of 19 cases. Two cases remain pending. He had already served more time in jail than the maximum sentence he could have received even if convicted on all charges.

He walked out of prison in January 2012.

His father had died while he was inside. His mother had suffered a stroke so severe she no longer recognised him when he walked through the door.

The National Human Rights Commission directed the Delhi government to pay him compensation.

The amount was Rs 5 lakh.

No officer from the Delhi Police Special Cell was charged. No one was suspended. No inquiry was ordered.

He wrote a book about what was done to him. He called it Framed As A Terrorist. My 14 Year Struggle To Prove My Innocence.

He now helps other wrongfully accused prisoners navigate the system that destroyed him.

India gave him Rs 5 lakh and called it justice.

Her name is Rupan Deol Bajaj.

She was an IAS officer of the Punjab cadre serving as Special Secretary Finance. One of the most senior women in the Punjab government in 1988.

On the night of July 18, 1988, she attended a dinner party at the Chandigarh residence of Punjab’s Financial Commissioner SL Kapoor.

Also at that party was KPS Gill. The Director General of Police, Punjab. The most powerful police officer in the state.

Around 10 pm, he walked up to her and ordered her to get up and come with him. She turned to leave.

He slapped her on her posterior in front of the other guests.

She filed a complaint the very next day.

What followed was 17 years.

The police submitted a report favouring Gill. The High Court quashed her FIR. The same officer who reviewed her complaint had already given an opinion in Gill’s favour before acting as a judicial officer in the same case.

She went to the Supreme Court.

Her own mother told her to cry over it privately and move on. She received death threats. She was given punishment postings.

She fought anyway.

In 1995, the Supreme Court restored her complaint and directed prosecution. In 2005, the final verdict came. Gill was convicted under Section 354 and Section 509 of the IPC for outraging her modesty. His three month jail sentence was converted to probation. He was fined Rs 2 lakh.

She declined to accept the compensation. The court ordered it be donated to women’s organisations.

In 2010, she wrote to the government demanding they take back the Padma Shri given to KPS Gill.

The man who slapped her was never jailed for a single day.

The woman who fought him spent 17 years doing it.
