@joshmoney__ "You choose to be a good human being". The definition of what a society deems a "good human being" is rooted in our core values (at the heart of culture). For example, some countries/cultures support the death penalty for homosexuals.
@JEChalmers Why not index it? The raises given don't keep up with inflation. The net result is less spending power for Australians.
My take is that it isn't indexed so politicians can campaign on raising the minimum wage over and over without correcting the actual issue.
@dodona777 Many successful countries have zero CGT such as Singapore, Switzerland, and the UAE. Raising taxes lowers business efficiency and makes it hard to compete internationally.
@devsandip@robprogressive 2) Completely agree with you that a level of government is required and beneficial to business however I don't believe the recent changes in tax do anything for improving infrastructure but rather cover the cost of inefficient government spending.
@devsandip@robprogressive 1) I'd argue that it's directly related. Inefficient government leads to increased taxes which drives up business cost, making them less efficient. Businesses are then left with the decision of decreasing cost or raising prices driving up inflation (or driving work offshore).
