Grok's response is spot on. Using it as an engineering tool I have done 2000 word prompts and then asked it to clairify any imprecise language or assumptions that are needed. The second response was another 1000 words before we even got to an actual response. The actual response 10min later would have been 30 to 60hrs of my time as a ME PE to do the engineering calculations. For general use simple prompts are fine.

As a design engineer in Defense, I like to use the example of a B-2 toilet seat which is something like 10k each which is actually pretty cheap. For each item, you have to qualify the vendor (cost), environmental qual the seat (20k to 100k), engineering to do the analysis to verify the flight loads. Paperwork to certify. For a total production quality of 21. You also have a total quantity of 21 ever built. If you found improvements that you could make on part number 3 and on it would involve requalifying and recertifying the new part. You would also have to have a plan to replace the old ones or you would have to maintain separate blueprints for each configuration of the aircraft. You also have to justify to congress why evil defense contractor charged 300k for 21 toilet seats to make a small improvement.
It is also impractical to take civilian equivalents. For example a car only has to work in reasonable weather and conditions. A military vehicle will have EMI requirements requiring it not to be effected by or causing problems to the environment. This would be stuff like I have my car next to this sensitive radar capable of seeing hundreds of miles but the stupid vehicle is putting out so much energy it blinds the sensors and conversly the radar puts out so much energy the vehicle doesn't work. Vehicles also have to be rated for cold and hot extremes. The vehicle might also need testing for explosion resistance.

@diannahaze I was told to avoid fermented foods and red meat due to its inflammatory nature which inflames my long covid/ pem. It can also take upto 6 weeks for your body to return to baseline which seems to be true for me.

Using the drone and assuming slow speed and size actual gains are 1-5% but at the risk of too much back pressure in the cylinder which will drop actual hp. Also cylinder temperature will increase due to the nozzle. You can achieve the higher value if a larger pison area or faster speed 400mph is used. For the slow speed and small piston area the benefits do not outweigh the risks. It would be better to optimize the engine for higher hp with less risk.

@juulietbravo @zanehengsperger Many of the different grades of aluminum cant be welded effectively as it screws with the heat treatment reducing strength by upto 70%. Some grades can be reheatreated to partially/fully restore the properties and others remain at the reduced strength like 7075.

@JasonWilsonFL @DrPhiltill I agree with Dr Metzger 100%. Corporate military contracts are at least that, if not higher. I suspect the cost for university paperwork is lower than military contract paperwork. Contracts that are over 50 mil are required by law to unlock a god tier which adds 40%.

@Erdayastronaut @smartereveryday Artemis had more than 10 years between starting and launch. If HLS is given just 7 years from contract date it would be ready in late 2028. The other issue is the spacesuits are in the same shape as HLS. Not sure I get the argument that it should be ready 3-4 years after award.
