Impressive! More college athletes are choosing their battles in the name of fairness and in the name of basic rights and well-being.

@EddieComeaux This is amazing to hear and I hope this inspires more people involved in #collegeathletics to take a stand & use their platforms to improve the conditions set by the NCAA & spread awareness that intercollegiate athletics is not as fair & benefial to its athletes as it should be
the episode of spongebob when he procrastinates writing his essay and is only capable of writing the word 𝖙𝖍𝖊 & eventually burns his house down really foreshadowed college
@angu_adriana@saragrummert I think this is very problematic because this effects the athletes sense of self worth negatively & that can ultimately lower their academic progress & success.Athletes should feel like they can communicate with their coaches without harsh means or having a threat of punishment
Athletes devote less time to academics & more to athletics. Do you believe institutions should be responsible for motivating students to commit more time to their academics & success after college?what incentives should be taken place? @saragrummert#UCR50 https://t.co/UZd5Xx22XE
@peterpan_duhh@saragrummert I think is is so unfair to athletes. This just goes to show how athletes are being exploited and there needs to be modifications made within the NCAA.
Ch.24 in our readings discuss how the NCAA needs to devolp new models of intercollegiate athletics, what concepts do you think the NCAA should adapt to create a better stanza for athletes and institutions affiliated with the NCAA? @saragrummert#ucr50

@AlondraNieto10@saragrummert I honestly beleive they wouldnt be as popluar as they are today. If title ix was never implemented, maybe there would be women athletic teams but i highly doubt that theyd be equal to mens teams and not have as many opportunities as today.
Title IX asseses different mesures to make sure institutions are treating genders fairly although 80% of institutuons are still not complying to it. What do you think can be done to start bringing down that percentage & assure institutions are in compliance #UCR50@saragrummert
@gestrada796@saragrummert No one should be required to stand to the national anthem. It is a part of our right to protest when we see wrongdoings being done within the government and our duty to bring awareness to it, i think more people need to use their platforms for good causes
@jsaav007@saragrummert well said!! Many people have worked incredibly hard to be where they are today and the work and dedication they do does not go unnoticed
Hearing Gyasmine speak today really made me realize how important everyones fight & resistance is.The US still needs alot of improvement to stop rasicm & inequality. The way she represents activists has really inspired me to get involved and find my positionality #UCR50
@araanzaaguirre@saragrummert f
Faculty streotyping athletes as lazy & apathetic people is unfair, they need to realize every person is different. Everyone has their own personal struggles and sometimes athletes work 2x as hard as the regular student. Athletes have more school/social balancing duties
The NCAA uses the term "amateurism" as part of a principle, however there are many controversies tied to it such as profits/revenues, student college difficulties, power/control over athletes. What are your thoughts on the NCAA using amateurism as a principle?#UCR50@saragrummert
@Gisellec_99 @saragrummert Agreed! They should support their athletes & not encourage them to miss class for athletic needs. I believe they are not putting the althetes best interest first,if they did, they would be pushing them to study harder and place more time in their academics and helping them graduate
@ashcastiyo @saragrummert I agree that athletes should be compensated more than they are, but not as much as coaches, coaches shouldn't be earning the amount they are. Athletes also dont have to be compensated just by pay, there are other solutions to meeting an athletes needs
The National Letter of Intent places a bigger priority to protect universities, but why doesnt the University/coaches sign contracts that protect students, is it just me or do athletes always seem to get the short end of the stick
#ucr50@saragrummert https://t.co/F62Jf4Fuf4
@mariamedinat @DianaTo41965596 @saragrummert Agreed. Money should be given to all sports, not the just "popular" ones. The amount of money coaches get can be reduced and given to other sports, athletes, and academic departments that struggle financially
