Extremely low rainfall and snowpack have resulted in one of the driest years on record for our Willamette and Rogue reservoirs.
Here's a brief explanation of what that means for all of us:

Exceptionally low rainfall and snowpack have resulted in drought conditions for Lost Creek and Applegate lakes, creating challenges for refilling the reservoirs ahead of the summer recreation season.

Low-head dams, known as “drowning machines,” can cause injury or death if you become trapped in the recirculating current generated by the dam.
In the next few weeks, we're starting a critical repair of the Rogue River South Jetty on Oregon’s southern coast. The repair, scheduled to finish this fall, will ensure the long-term reliability of the vital navigation channel at Gold Beach.

Effective April 15, we’re transitioning to a fully cashless fee collection system at several recreation sites near John Day Dam.
This change will affect Plymouth Campground, LePage Campground, and LePage Day Use Park.

We're taking proactive measures at Hills Creek Dam to protect nearby communities from risks associated with earthquakes.
This recreation season, we'll be lowering the reservoir's water level by about 30 feet.
